My Mrs has booked a week away in late October to Barbados with her mate and the kids. I've been given full allowance to travel that week as I don't think they really want me with them and I'm also turning 50 this year. I'm think about 3 nights in Bangkok and 4 in Pattaya. I last visited Pattaya 20 years ago with a couple mates but this time I'll most likely be solo as my mates have young kids  and cant get away.
I've never travelled by myself before and worried about pangs of loneliness that may set in. I also have concerns about the possible rainy weather at the end of October.
Any advice and travel tips welcome. I know I probably wont get this opportunity again so keen to take full advantage  :)

Go for it, you only live once  :thumbsup:I’m doing my 3rd solo trip in May same places.. you will need a second holiday when you get back
There is plenty of information on this sight..
I was in patts and bankers in August and it was not a problem with the wet weather for me! I don’t know about October as I’ve never been in Asia in an autumn season( maybe someone on the rest of the team can answer).
Happy planning!

It seems to me that most guys from the UK that come to Thailand are “solo” travellers - certainly in Pattaya!! We are all here for the same reason and maybe all feel like at least chatting in a bar etc! And of course as long as you have money in your wallet you will never be alone!!!

There are always “tourists” things to do as well but it maybe in part down to you - are you a social able guy? Do you chat to people easily, do you like reading or into gaming on your phone etc?  And of course you can always go get a nice massage ( with or without extras) from about 300 baht (about £7) - a bit more in BKK!

I don’t think you will feel lonely for too long here! ( I  say “here” as I am currently in Patts )

Just booked return flights to Bangkok! Whoop whoop!
Not cheap but only live once!
Thanks again for the push I needed

Early October can be quite wet but late October is ok. As for being solo, islands like Phuket attacts the couples whereas Pattaya attracts guys often solo guys. So don't worry about it

I travelled solo for over a month back in 2018 and not once felt lonely. Met some wonderful people just by chatting to them over a pint in a bar. Something I would never do back in England. Met one guy who knew the owner of a Go-Go bar and I had the best night ever. Another time I met a French guy with his Thai wife and they took me to the best bars in Bangkok.

Also had a few nights with ST and LT freelancers.

Just go with the flow.

More chance of being bored than lonely. But i cant imagine how someone can be bored in pattaya or bangkok, you can find something to do if not punting. I have in the past played pool for hours in pattaya in a bar in tree town. The girl i played with, invited me over to her accommodation. i didnt do anything with her though because she wasnt attractive.

Hi Tinman, I've just booked for early November, 10 nights in BKK & 5 nights in Patts. Also a newbie & travelling solo but it sounds like you may already have left by then.

MJ - i suspect a few guys will be in Thailand during November, as its the first month in the "dry" season after the "rainy" season. (it seems that october is regarded as the "changing month" - ie wet to dry)

If your main reason for going is punting, i would you suggest you do it the other way round - 5 days in BKK and  10 in Pattaya. Certainly that would be better for your wallet!

I second that.

I have been travelling solo now for 6 years (my partner died 9 years ago). I really enjoy it - I have had such fun in SEA and Latin America. About to go to Philippines for 5 weeks. So don’t worry.

Offline METEOR

I've been solo travelling for 15yrs and absolutely love it. And with Thailand it's easy to meet like minded individuals over a beer or 2 in a bar or around a hotel pool.

Two of my mates have also booked tickets but they're staying in Pattaya for 3 nights before heading off to Phuket which I have no interest in visiting. I'll most probably hang back in Pattaya. I visited Pattaya with them 20 years ago and they also barfined the first girl that smiled at them! Didn't really party with them late into the evening which is what I enjoy

Cheers mate but I'm mixing punting with the tourist stuff and want to do a couple of excursions from Bangkok in between punts and I'm well past the stage of doing 2 or 3 girls a  day. Also I have a family member living in Pattaya who's married to a Thai lady and will need to meet up with but don't want to get tied down (metaphorically) or feel that I'm imposing. I'm hoping I'll get away with a few beers & maybe  a meal and be left to my own de(vices).

I would be really interested in how you get on in the Philippines.  I am thinking of visiting later this year.  As I will be travelling solo for the first time I was hoping to find more of a holiday girlfriend for a few days instead of a punt for a couple of hours.  I know that the level of English is very high in the Philippines. I was hoping the chance of finding a cute uni student who spoke good English would be high.

Get set up on Filipino Cupid and start your search. You will get lots of dross but just use your judgement and video calls and take your pick

Unless banging a 'University student' is your particular fantasy, I would be more open in your thinking than that. There are women that can speak good English virtually everywhere in the Philippines. It is a catholic country, so with non-pro's don't expect the panties to immediately drop. Although for the opportunity to be taken for a long weekend on Boracay Island it help considerably with those endeavours.

I was thinking using Filipino Cupid, Seeking and Tinder.

Being in Uni is not a requirement.  I am looking for cute, petite, preferably young, educated, classy, good English and easy to chat to and spend time with.  I can only really spend 2 to 3 hours per having sex.  It would be nice to have someone to dine with and do other fun activities together. I thought struggling uni student might fit the bill.  My plan is to take someone I met on a dating site out for dinner.  If I like them and get on well with them, I will try and convince them to come back to my room.  If that fails my back up plan would be to just pay a professional for a couple of hours.
Not being very religious myself I forget to factor it in. I will have a look at Boracay Island, thanks for the suggestion.

Well it can be done I have a date set up in Dumaguete with a graduate working in a call centre amongst others on my forthcoming trip to the Philippines. I leave here on Sunday for my 3rd Asian trip this year. It will not be my last inshallah.

Did you arrange your date in Dumaguete (and the other dates you have lined up) through Filipino Cupid?

I'm in pattaya either 18th or 20th, you'll be a seasoned pro by then, if you want it can meet for a drink or 2 and you can give me some tips you've picked up
