Offline puntingking

Hi guys, I am looking to get a cheap pay as you go phone for punting activities rather than keep using my "everyday phone".

Which mobile company would you recommend to top up with? also, How do you top up a pay as you phone? It been so long since I has a pay as you go phone that I can't exactly remember how they work.

Thanks in advance for any help on this matter  :hi:

If you have a pay as you go phone, please let me know how you top it up and is it easy to keep topping up.
Also, although every mobile company will be different. I am not too sure how far £10 to £20 top up would get you.

How long have you been a punter and a member here ? - and you are only now getting around to getting a punting phone?? I am genuinely surprised at you as you are a regular contributor and must have seen countless comments about how important it is!

There are lots of threads suggesting phones and sims !

never felt needed to get a PAYG phone. I don't have a gf or wife and I tend to keep myself to myself.

I would like to get one now, no particular reason. I just feel that it would be better.

Often your "Civvy" phone number can appear online for various reasons, and who knows what the various social platforms, browsers etc etc are harvesting from our phones. IIRC Punters have reported on here being presented with Facebook profiles of Prossies that they have seen.

With punting you are often mixing in the seedier side of life's characters. I want to be absolutely certain that I'm not being connected for any reason.

Yes, here here and also leave your normal phone away from you. Turn it off completely when you go in for a punt….. you’ll be amazed suddenly someone can pop up as a friend request years later or months later after you’ve rode them. I used to always take my phone in with me but on silent just in case perhaps in the Blind, hope I could record.! Never again

Mine's from ASDA, as basic as it can get, £15 I think it cost. No contract, no internet, but it does have a camera, so at least you can photograph the girl's profile pics to check against the girl who presents herself, if needed. I see mainly Thai girls, so comms are invariably by text, a £20 top-up lasts for months.

is it best to change my "civvy" phone number first before getting another phone on pay as you go for punting activities?  :hi:

2 very different issues, no need to change civvy number first, just get a payg sim and an old phone, if it's a smartphone get a new gmail to set it up completely separate to your main phone, I believe an old smartphone is best as I no longer like typing texts on an number keypad, will also let you use whatsapp ect, and maps if you need it to find the venue.

Only you can decide if you feel the need to change your civvy number and how much hassle this would cause you. I probably wouldn't bother myself unless you are recieving unwanted contact. But then I have had my number for at least 20 years.

Offline Spacecowb0y

Another tip is NEVER send content, pics, emails from punting phone to civvy phone. They should exist entirely seperate. Don't pair them IN ANY WAY and as suggested above, TURN civvy phone off before going into the appointment.
I tend to stick it in the hidden compartments of the boot a couple of miles before i find my parking space.

I have gone with Asda talk and text. It is only £4 and it will last for 30 days. Great deal I think and it will do the job.

This won't apply to you at the moment, but one possible issue with a PAYG phone is the top ups. As we move quickly to a cashless society, the money used to pay for a top up will have to come directly from a Bank Account which is 'discoverable' by a future partner. Once they know you have a second phone, the questions will start, and you're on the slippery slope to being "outed" as a punter.

How do you arrive at this statement, based on what evidence?

l get round this by buying a top up voucher over the counter with cash which l hope will continue to be an option

What a statement, if you look at the statistics, they will tell you cash has picked up lately, as a means of paying. And when you get into the realms of paying SPs any other way, than by cash, you are on a slippery slope, and will get caught out. I would never let my punting life cross over in this way. Cash is King.  :D

As I'm sure you are aware, it costs the High Street Banks money to have cash delivered to Branches and to have ATMs serviced. They are 'for profit' businesses, and if they think they can increase those profits for the benefit of their Shareholders, which include the big private pension providers, they'll do it - remember when they stopped putting covers into ATMs? The BoE had to put pressure on them to reverse that decision.
Yes, cash is enjoying a bit of a comeback currently, largely driven by older people who are not particularly comfortable with   online banking, but once they're gone there will  only be people who find the convenience of paying by phone or card much more convenient.
As for SPs, they'll just go with the flow - I know of a couple who can, and do, take bank transfers as payment now and to e it convenient to them - no trips to the Bank to pay cash in - card payments may take longer, as they can be disputed by clients. I suppose the "sergei's" of the world won't like it but I'm sure they'll adapt, they'll have to.

‘Hushed’ is a good app for having a separate number. A lot more convenient than having a 2nd phone that you have to hide.

It already requires a pin to unlock, but you can also combine it with the ’hide app’ feature in recent versions of iOS and it’s about as secure and discreet as you could want.

I'm not sure exactly what covers the OP is referring to, but I do remember some ATM's having a little cover above the keypad, I think some were also able to tilt upwards.

Yes, it’s a payg second number for your phone. Fairly basic - calls and texts only but that’s all you really need for this game. You can have as many numbers as you like too.

Read the reviews. Some people have said their messages and calls can be heared or read by the owners of the app.
I will not seek to get this app because of the lack of privacy concerns.

I’n on Three payg & use an old iPhone so the texts are free if the girl also has an iPhone. I hotspot from my main phone when out on a punt & try to use WhatsApp if possible so I usually only top up a couple of times a year.

Just got a payg Lebara sim due to 1p mobile becoming too expensive for the punting phone that isn't used enough to warrant a 1p sim.

Question is that to use the £5 voucher I have to download the Lebara app to top it up and give an email address. Is this safe for anonymity and can you be traced from an email address if it's only being used for topping up the phone.

Thanks, CS.

Therefore I just reread this thread and like the sound of Charlie Hutton's ASDA payg if the top up lasts as long as it lasts. Punting on hold until I get a new one. Bugger.

If only to avoid getting stalked abused by SPs or their sergeis, it is a healthy thing to have a second number. In your case, that doesn't necessarily mean a second phone, but a second SIM and/or number (whether an actual physical SIM, an e-SIM or a "virtual" one like Vyke) is definitely a good idea

I guess it depends what you see a punting phone as achieving. If you see it as a way to stop yourself being tracked by law enforcement then probably you have a problem. If you are married and your wife has/will have access to your bank accounts then it might be a problem. Any other reason, you’re probably fine. WGs, websites etc arent going to be able to trace you if thats what you’re worried about unless you link the number to something in your real life or you let them see your payment receipts. Dont get too paranoid (fwiw I buy my punting sim credits on my normal bank card no problem)

I have an iPhone with an ESIM. and it leaves me with a free space for a physical sim.

you can turn on or off either sim/plan from iPhone settings.

that way, 1 phone, 2 numbers. you can delete the messages after and from recently deleted. and turn off the sim.

beats getting caught with a 2nd handset.
