I am planning a long trip to SE Asia at the end of the year, of up to 6 weeks.  Naturally I am planning to partake in our sport whilst I am traveling, it will not be the sole reason for the trip.  I will do touristy stuff by day and try and find some action for the evening.  I planning to use Thaifriendly and other dating sites to try and find a gem I would be happy to send a few days with.  Naturally if I fail, I would be more than happy with a little ST.  The reason I am contemplating having a lady for a few days, I am unsure about being on my own all the time and getting bored.  As this is my first trip to Asia would like to try a few different places, Thailand, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Manila and a beach somewhere to chill, are all on my list of possibilities.  I would like to try a few places to see if I want to go back there longer.  I haven’t decided how many I will visit yet as I don’t want to spend all of my time travelling.  I want to just take it as it comes with no set itinerary.  If I don’t like somewhere I will just book a flight to the next location.  Does anybody have any experience of traveling around Asia booking flights at the last minute?  With regards to the long-haul flight from the UK.  Has anyone booked an flexible ticket or tried to book a flight back last minute?

Precisely what I have done quite a few times over the past 3 years. Always last minute and booked on a whim - prices for shorter haul tend to go up but arent crazy. I usually book a one way flight with a stop or maybe 2, going for the cheapest possible - then for the way back ready to bite the bullet if prices go up a lot. Although I have been pretty lucky - got a direct from BKK for £260 last last trip. And this trip I used points, somehow loads of flights available (Cathay) - and got it for £100 from HK to London (+30,000 airmiles). The freedom is well worth it in my opinion.

Skyscanner and Trip.com good for cheaper flights when in Asia (Opodo can often be more expensive... but sometimes cheaper than the other 2, its weird).

Flying to Philippines somehow not always so easy/cheap. Flights to HK/Osaka/Tokyo/Bangkok/Seoul can be found for good value (HK/Bangkok on the return are good).

Bohol (Panglao) beach is nice, however NOT good for meeting women so dont fall into that trap like I did. Also Pattaya is obviously ridiculous for women... but the beach is utter shite/filthy.

half the people that go back-packing have detailed plans but the other half don't - once at their initial destination, they just go wherever and whenever they fancy.

Personally - i pre-book my flight out and flight back (because i need to be back by a specified date) but leave the detail in-between to the last minute. I am heading out to Bangkok next week, have booked a 2 night stay in Bangkok but only that. I am thinking about Pattaya, Patong, Chiang Mai, Vietnam and Cambodia but won't have time for all of these so will decide where and for how long when i am there. I like the expression of "go with the flow" and tend to do that.

I am planning on researching areas and hotels in in city I might visit so that I have a shortlist. I will book my first night in a hotel before I land at the next destination, so I know that I have somewhere to go. If I like it, I will extend, if it is a bit ropey, I will hunt around for a better hotel for the next night.  Does anyone have any tips for booking hotels or negotiating a better room?

My tip would be to look on booking sites at places that take your fancy (so you know they have availability), then turn up in person and ask for a room, cutting out the middleman.  Also ask if you can view the available rooms and then choose one, as room quality does vary.

I wouldnt go manila unless its only for punting. Its a shithole.

Booking last minute has the advantage of going with the flow and the disadvantage of flight prices being much higher. Hotels are the same.
Also bear in mind that everytime you fly from one place to another, although the flight may only be 2 hours long, it will take up most of your day when you consider going to the airport checking in etc then after arriving waiting for your baggage and getting a taxi to your hotel etc. So its not worth going somewhere for just a couple of days- just my opinion.
A very few budget airlines in asia still dont charge extra for checked in baggage so keep an eye out for them..as these charges add up and suddenly a £50 single flight ends up costing nearly twice as much.

If 'the end of the year' means December / January then this is high season in that part of the world and some forward planning maybe required. If you are going over Christmas and New Year you definitely need to make some more solid plans.  Room rates in Thailand this high season were up about 30-100
% on the last few years if they weren't booked well in advance it seemed. Agoda is usually cheapest for rooms. i have paid a lot of money for last minute flights the last few years, things just seem a lot harder and more expensive lately unless more planning goes into it. It really depends on the time of year though but this December - Feb was really hammered in Thailand.

Thai Friendly is a great resource but don't make any multi day commitments until you've met the lady.  You see guys talking to girls online before they go and she might even meet him at the airport when he lands and then you might find her hard to get rid of as she's expecting to be with you for X days. 

The problem you always have in Thailand is the language barrier and after the novelty wears off they can get pretty boring and annoying. It's best to keep it fresh IMO, there's always a better one around the corner

Thank you all for the excellent advice.  Winter and Christmas in particular is my quiet time of year.  I could go anytime in November until I get bored.  I was thinking of going mid-November, If I am enjoying it, I might not come back until early January.  If I were to stay over Christmas, I will take your advice and pre book for the busy period.  I have never travelled alone before, which is why I am worried about being lonely.  As this is a “business” trip visiting suppliers, (wink).  My accommodation and flights will be paid by my business, so less worried about prices.  I am planning on hitting things like TF and Tinder before I get to my next destination.  Plan A would be to find a cute university student, who speaks good English and would like the chance to practise.  Naturally I would be happy to make a donation to costs of her studies for spending time with me.  I would like to go out for dinner, drinks, lounge around the pool, a little sight seeing and chat to find out more about them and the country.  If that fails, I will just look for something “short time” to keep me entertained.  I was considering the Philippines, largely due to the high level of English being spoken.  I have been reading the Gambia thread; I quite like the fact that the girls there are happy to hang around and spend time with you.  As much as I love sex, I can’t shag 16 hours a day.

Staying with the same chick for a few days sounds a great idea but only if she has the right attitude (once you have met and are staying together). Otherwise it can ruin your time. I would recommend meeting for a shorter time first and if things go well and you get along, propose a longer meet and maybe go somewhere with her?

I find that you will probably not feel lonely if you go somewhere where theres a lot happening all day and at night til late. Like pattaya/bangkok/patong

I dont like it when places shut early and theres nothing to do after like 10pm (Samui is an example) - unless you have overnight company

Well, I have started my Not So Grand Tour of SEA. I say that because I was going to do 6 weeks and 6 countries. Chances are I will only be doing 3 counties and 3 weeks, aiming for Bangkok, Jakarta and Manila. My plan of action for my trip was simple.  Try and find a civilian from Tinder or TF etc, who was happy to go out for drinks and dinner. If they wanted to come back to my hotel, great. If not, cab fare home and have a plan B. Fantastic plan, hasn’t worked out as well as I had hopped so far.

I flew out to Bangkok on Christmas day, after I did family stuff in the morning. The queue at immigration when I landed was huge, I thought I would be there hours. As it turns out only about 30 minutes.  I had read online that I might need proof of hotel, travel insurance and onward travel. As it turned out they only wanted my passport, lading card and my fingerprints.

I am staying at the Movenpick hotel on Soi 15. It is halfway between Nana and soi Cowboy. I thought good location, 5 Star hotel not too bad a price. The pictures online looked really good.  It appears that the pictures were take a while ago and standards have slipped. I would say it is a low 4 star hotel. The food is terrible; I had one breakfast and ate out the rest of the time.  Having looked at the hotels nearby, if I returned, I would stay at the either the Landmark or the Hyatt.  The Hyatt has an amazing rooftop bar, called Spectrum (more on that later). 

I arrived at my hotel around 9pm, checked in and unpacked.  I was tired, but didn’t want to go to bed just yet.  I decided to go Thermae, for a look around.  I had read other people’s reports on their visits, I was still surprised.  It is the largest meat market I have ever seen. I walked in got a drink and walked around 3 times and picked a cutie.  She quoted me 3k for 1 hour and 4k for 2 hours. I went for 2 hours. We started to walk back to my hotel, I was pleased with myself, 10 minutes in already had a 7/10 cutie, things were going well. We stopped for a drink, I quickly realized that she spoke very little English and this was a waste of time.  We finished our drinks and got back to my hotel.  We had a shower together and then on to the bed.  She wasn’t keen on kissing and my BJ didn’t last very long. She didn’t seem to appreciate me giving her oral and felt it was pointless, so on with the condom.  She rode me well, but it was not doing much for me. So, we tried mish then doggie, finally I laid her down into prone bone until the end. With that she showered and left at the 40 minute mark. As the action had not been great and there was little conversation to be had I let her go.  I was left thinking, why ask how long did I want if you are going to leave at 40 minutes?
I had been hitting TF hard I was getting quite a few responses, sadly none of them ended up with them actually meeting.  I picked up 2 more FLs from Thermae with similar levels for service.  I did get a match on Tinder from a girl from Bali who was staying in Bangkok. She quoted me 5K, she was a Lillie curvier than I normally go for.  She gave me the only GFE service I experienced in Bangkok. On my last night I picked up a 10/10 on the street. She was aesthetically perfect for me, she had a cute face, a fantastic body and amazingly soft skin.  I thought she was about 22, she told me she was 34, I was gobsmacked. She asked for 5K and I agreed as she ticked all my boxes. The service was less mechanical but not at all GFE.
I did go to Nana Plaza while I was there just for a look and to be able to say that I have been.  I went into one of the ladyboy bars just for a giggle. Some were obviously ladyboys. The rest I was shocked as to how good they looked. Bearing in mind that they were all in bikinis I couldn’t spot anything. To anyone who says that they can spot a LB 100%, especially while dressed, I am calling that bullshit. Buyer beware!

I did enjoy my time in Bangkok. I didn’t see any street food that looked as though it wouldn’t give me food poisoning, so I didn’t partake. I found a great Thai restaurant called Nara, the food was excellent.  I spent time on Soi 11, it was my favourite lots of restaurants and bars, not too sleazy. Despite all the messages on TF and likes on Tinder.  I never found a civilian or low volume FL online, to actually meet with.

So I am now in Jakarta.  I had set my passport mode here in advance and I had a lot of great likes, I was feeling confidant. I landed at the airport and there are no cash machines.  I went to one of the exchange booths and got £200 changed which gave me 4.4 Million. The hilarious thing is the largest note is 100,000, about £4.4. She handed me a huge wad of notes. I felt like a millionaire which I was temporarily.
I am staying at the Movenpick hotel again. This one is much better than the one in Bangkok. I picked as it has 4 restaurants, a coffee shop and an ice cream parlour. Along with the pool and gym I didn’t need to go out. It is also very close to Emporium and Classic.
I had a really cute petite girl lined up for my first night.  She agreed to meet me at my hotel.  She was very nervous to meet me, I agreed that she should come and meet me for dinner, afterwards she could decide if she wanted to come up to my room.  Dinner was very nice and she spoke very good English. She was happy to go to my room. She told me that I had to take it steady as I was her first white guy. I decided to start with oral on her, hopping to relax her.  She had told me that she was very submissive on the chat beforehand.  She thoroughly enjoyed herself, I made here cum twice. At this point I wanted some oral.  She was very kind telling how big I was. She only put the head of me into her mouth, but she sucked the life out of me.  We then went on to sex starting in missionary, she was incredibly tight, we went on to doggy. She came again whilst I was spooning her and I came shortly afterwards. The third night the first girl came back for a repeat of the fun.
On the fourth day I got a girl from Tinder to visit in the morning. This also turned out to be a bait and switch, but still very good.  It seems that if their coms are very quick, it is a maid or pimp answering, so watch out for that.
I was going to try Classic before I left, sadly I have the trots and don’t want to punt until I am feeling better.
I have tired to do some touristy stuff, sadly there isn’t much worth doing. It seems the local don’t walk anywhere and the only thing they do is go to airconditioned malls. I did go to the Grand Indonesia mall, to see if I could pick up someone interesting.  It was a complete failure.  I did have a good coffee and cake at the 7AM coffee shop.
I was lured to Jakarta in the hope of finding more natural.  Once agin despite the number of likes on Tinder I only managed to meet one none pro. The girl I saw twice was fantastic. The city and the other punts were not up to much.  It is a little cheaper here that in Bangkok for girls, hotels, drinks and food. I did try some Indonesian food it was good, but not as good as Thai. I have a meeting I Bali in a couple of days. I am going to fly to Bali and just relax. I don’t intend to do any punting. I am planning on having a look for a FL in a bar to see if I can find something I like.  I have set tinder to Bali and I am getting few locals and lot of Russian models popping up. I imagine they will be very expensive.

Is MR a bust in Jakarta? Just tried a few and all but one wanted 200 usd plus. Pointed out how far off base that was and they didn't take it well. There seem to be I presume Americans or Australians paying 200 or 250 USD for an hour. Presuming all the real value is on Tinder and Bumble.

I do this quite a lot.

My last trip was 7 weeks and was Thailand, Cambodia, Taiwan, Philippines, and South Korea. I have been to Jakarta several times as well but not my last trip.

From the UK I typically book a return flight or flight out to one city and back from another, in my experience its as cheap as flying one way so if I don't use the return flight it is no big deal. I've considered coming back early once (I was ill and a bit miserable) and researched flights. The price was OK I didn't end up doing it.  Most commonly I fly one of the Chinese airlines via Beijing or Shanghai.

I use google flights and skyscanner for research, I almost always book with trip.com, booking.com, or direct. Sometimes booking direct is a massive pain and easy via trip.com or booking.com.

I do book flights last minute and in fact have booked a flight as late as 2hrs before departure before (I was already at the airport before its just so happened where my bus stopped, leaving was impulsive).
I have also booked flights and not used them, changing my mind about where to do next.
I have been asked for a return ticket a few times so some countries I do already have a ticket out though in some cases, as I said, I might not use it.

For hotels I mainly use booking.com and agoda, don't be fooled by VIP status and all that, it's all bollocks. If you search on google or tripadvisor (to name just two) you will very likely get offered a better price for booking or agoda than your so called VIP price.
