Fake accounts on Tinder, using pictures of models with cuts and bruises, have been set up as part of a campaign against sex trafficking.

Dublin-based advertising agency EightyTwenty and the Immigrant Council of Ireland are behind the scheme.

Profiles initially show a picture of an attractive person, but when users swipe to see more photos they are then confronted with images depicting abuse that victims of trafficking are often subjected to.

It is intended that the campaign will tell stories about those caught up in sex trafficking and prostitution.
 
Organisers hope it will make men of all ages aware of the consequences of their actions when they buy sex.

According to the agency behind the project, it has received positive feedback from those viewing it so far; many are said to be shocked that the crime is happening in the midst of modern societies.

With every swipe through the pictures the physical impact of trafficking becomes more apparent, before a message asking for support appears.

Denise Charlton, chief executive of the Immigrant Council of Ireland, which has supported 60 women trafficked to Ireland, said:

“Sex trafficking is one of the most lucrative crimes with the sums involved on a par with those for drug smuggling and gun running, yet many people are not aware that it is a reality in communities right across Ireland.

The campaign is one of the first of its kind on Tinder and uses the app’s free service to distribute its message to the largest possible audience and to those that might not otherwise be reached by traditional media sources.

While not wishing to offend the OP, does he/she think members of this forum are unaware of the level of trafficking that exists? Plus from what we are fed by the media, the trafficking is predominantly amongst particular ethinic groups, and relates to brothels.

Many forum users visit independents or licensed establishments, not quick profit brothels set up by pimps in seedy backstreets.

I appreciate that the OPs message about the awareness on Tinder is well intentioned, my guess that the message is lost on here simply because members do not use Tinder, as it is not a recognised place to find escorts or WGs, but used more by the 16-25 age band for dating, rather than NSA sexual encounters.

Most members of this forum are responsible adults and would likely contact Crimestoppers if they visited somewhere and suspected trafficking.

This in a country that still largely, officially, refuses to acknowledge that single mothers were forcibly removed from their children and used as slave labour by the catholic church for several decades? Forcing women to work as prostitutes against their will is abhorrent to virtually everyone, but I suspect that few of us on here have ever encountered such a woman. I would like to think so too, but I'm not so sure. It's naive to think this just relates to just brothels. As ever with this topic show me the actual evidence by way of convictions that sex trafficking is a big problem here in England.

Some Politicians, Policeman and some of the media talk about it yet i have yet to see proof by way of convictions that it is a big problem. The police know all about brothels and A/W so if its a widespread problem why arent i hearing about them convicting pimp after pimp or trafficker after trafficker.

Harriet Harridan used a figure of 4000 trafficked for sex women to help get her coercion law through in 2009/10, no proof was ever given by way of convictions that that was an accurate figure.

Operations Pentameters 1 and 2 didnt find anywhere near 4000 women, they rescued about 400 but the convictions following it were very low as some werent trafficked but here illegally.

Personally i dont believe ANY so called studies, or what the police, media or politicians say on this issue as some have agendas. The ONLY thing that will convince me its a big problem is convictions.

I only wish to punt with willing WGs and in my view ALL traffickers should be given mandatory life sentences.

There was an article in the Sunday paper that Albanians were coached to say they were sex trafficked to get fast asylum.  Their story didn't stand up as they could not give the detail.  But it mentioned that others were nonetheless taking this as fact, and multiplying it by 20 (Albania is one in 20 EE places) to get the proven number of trafficked girls. Yikes.
