They've been in the UK, Washington DC and many other parts of the US too. Someone is doing something dodgy. Probably a foreign state or terrorist group. Time will tell what they're doing with the information they're getting.

Russian target acquisition

Unfortunately as we no longer have any AWACS aircraft we're rather stumped at any attempt to track them

An AWACS wouldn't be able to track such a small target anyway as they operate close to the ground and thus get lost in road traffic.

You just need a helicopter with a thermal imaging camera as the operators are probably nearby.

Helicopter have longer endurance and range than drones and you can have a human spotter looking for heat signatures of people on the ground.

Maybe they could use one of those Watchkeeper drones they've decided to scrap?

Of course anyone who suspects a false flag to drum up support for the ongoing xenophobia/paranoia will immediately be called a conspiracy theorist.

I've not been following this story much but it just seems to be a total Non story right from the start with most of these reported sightings immediately identified as commercial airplanes but once the story is rolling people jump on board  :dash:

They showed something yesterday with 4 objects but you could see the flashing lights used by airplanes  :unknown:
Then there are the claims about how these UFO's have come from some Iranian "Mothership", Oh FFS  :dash:

Is it just me or do these alien / UFO stories have a bigger history of coming out around Xmas time  :unknown:
Rendlesham was Boxing day 1980

I haven't seen any source claiming most of the sightings were identified as commercial airplanes though they do appear to have fixed wings :unknown:

If that really was the case then I'm pretty sure the FBI and National Security agencies would have come out and debunked it right off the bat.

They are either American, foreign or something else.

Must not be called the UFO's anymore they are now known as Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon (UAP's). The little green men put in a complaint saying the term UFO's gave them bad publicity.

I should really have added some extra punctuation to the end of that "or something else......." as it would have added extra intrigue

They could do that now but they keep a human in the loop. I suspect nobody is confident emough to give an AI the ability to fire missiles or guns.

They're just following them back to whoever is controlling them.  Intelligence services will be listening for chatter on the usual forums and X accounts.

Turkey have already deployed autonomous drones built by  Bayraktar

Possibly because most Air Defence is done by missiles these days, which tend to be either radar guided or heat seeking. Hobby drones have no heat source and a very small radar image, so the missile would ignore it and go for the biggest, nearest one, which could be unfortunate if you lived in a nearby block of flats. Remember the chaos caused at Gatwick by drones a few years ago?

Using a missile again these drones would be a total waste. They have jammers to jam the controllers and then they'll lose connection and either land on their own or fly back to a recovery point. They have anti-drone netting guns they could use to take them out.

Yes, apparently Nena wasn't too happy about the title "99 Luftballon" being translated as "99 Red Ballons" as the song itself wasn't supposed to be political, more anti war.
