I think I've mentioned before that back in January, I acquired a dog, a  7 year old springer spaniel.  Having not had a dog since childhood, it was a bit of a leap of faith for me to take him on.

Fast forward to now, and I can't imagine living without him.  Yesterday, I was really low - something a family member said/did that hurt me - and the dog somehow knew, and just walked over, looked up at me, lay down and rested his head on my feet.

We're off for a long walk after the rain clears.....second best therapy I know ( we all know the best.........)

Dogs are awesome, give them the love and attention they need, and they will repay you 100 fold.

I don't have the time to give a dog what it needs at the moment, so I have a cat, who is just a cunt, which is what I like about cats!  I'm hoping that once I retire I'll rehome a dog.

I couldn't agree more.

The older you get the more you overthink things so I could easily come up with 50 reasons NOT to have a dog.

Working from home during Covid made me realise if I don't get a dog now then I probably never will and the dog has been a revelation.

A dog grounds you. It gets you out of your head. Normally, if you're feeling down or upset or worried then you turn it over in your mind relentessly. A dog just drags you into the moment.

I wasn't sure if I would have the motivation to take the dog out twice a day EVERY day but it becomes a habit, rain or shine, and it provides a health boost as I take daily walks upto 1.5 hrs each day now.

Finally, having a dog, especially a cute dog is a fantastic social ice breaker. I would recommend it to anyone who suffers from depression or loneliness..............or even someone single who doesn't know how to meet women.

100% a dog person and not keen on cats at all.

The dogs that I have had have been loyal to the point they'd lay down their lives if needed.

They're always happy to see you, love nothing more than spending time with you and over time develop their own little personalities.

If the choice was put to me that I had to live with a woman or a dog, a dog would win every single time

Being a country lad,  i grew up with cats and dogs and other animals but went off dogs in my 20's. they became a "tie, a commitment - ie oh i can't stay over, i need to get back for my dog".

please remember that not everyone likes dogs. So many dog owners seem to think that everyone loves (or should love) their dog! when they bound up to you and jump up the owners say "oh he won't hurt you, he just wants to say hello" - well i don;t want the dirty paws on me nor do i want them sniffing around my ankles. and i def don't want to have to step around dog shit on the pavement or pathway etc. As in many things, sometimes its a minority of people (in this case dog owners*) who ruin things for the majority!

they say that dogs are owned by people, but cats "own" (or at least tolerate) humans!

(* that is the minority of dog owners)

I'd agree with that.

My dog (a rescue) considers it her mission to "make friends" with as many people as possible - fortunately, she also has good recall!

Over in Cambridgeshire there was a pub, its still there callled ther Tickel Arms run by the self styled squire of whittlesford Kim  Tickel, who got inot a lot of bother with who was and was not allowed inot his boozer!.

I remember one night the house music system invariably Wagner, was turned down and he boomed out "Who has that  battered old humber car out there"? rather sheepishly i admitted it was mine! He then boomed  bring that poor dog therin here and i did, water was provided for our dog and he came back from the kitchen with some scraps of meat and gave them to her!

Fun asking where the toilets were, "Gents" was that way, "Whores harlots and hussesys" was thataway he'd boom out! The women oddley enough loved that  bit like faulty towers it was, a real old boozer with a lot of character in abundance! One evening there was a well endowed bar maid there i was almost fixated on her chebs which she noticed so she pulled down her bra and said "here you can have a better view now" much to may red faced ambarresement!

Prince Charles when there for some late night parties when he was a student, it semed his mate Sigfried who was attired in Lederhosen was oftern in attandance!..

Happy days, its now a gastro  pub, lost all of that but have taken a few ladies there food is excellent!..

An explanation of canine vs feline :

Dog : "They feed me, they keep me warm, they look after me, they love me....... they must be Gods!"

Cat : "They feed me, they keep me warm, they look after me, they love me........ I must be a God!"

Dogs have owners.
Cats have servants.

There seems to be a town/country split on allowing dogs in pubs, ones in towns generally don't but in the country they generally do. It's at the discretion of the Landlord.

Lock a dog in the boot of your car.
Lock a woman in the boot of your car.
Which one is pleased to see you when you let them out?
Enough said!

My uncle always used this as an excuse to walk the dog, so I would go with my uncle, 1hr walk round the block.   We would always stop at his fav pub, where is friends drinks, and Im left with the dog, and walk him round the park

never complained, as he always looked after me, and most times he gave me £20, for this

I used to have a dog but he kept chasing a man who went past the house on a bicycle so we had to confiscate his bicycle.  Sorry I'll get me coat
