Don't think there is a thread about this yet, surprised so thought it worth starting one after just hearing the latest on the news.

It appears that Gregg has hit back at the allegations by saying all the complaints have come from a handful of "Middle class" women of "A certain age"

My instant thought when I heard this was that he's just done himself no favours whatsoever, if it wasn't already game over then I think it is now  :hi:

Looking at the ones the BBC and ITV have dug up to interview, he ain,t wrong  :unknown:.

Sad state of affairs if a guy being tried by press coverage cannot state his own case  :unknown:

For all we know rejection by him could be behind it  :unknown:

There are no claims of sexual abuse, seems to be some banter with innuendo, which women can be just as guilty of if you can be guilty of banter. The star of the show is always going to be a target, the rest are so boring he is there to give the show some life.

Whatever, he is probably fucked already, might as well go down fighting  :D

BBC played a recording by him (from Instagram?) in which he says over 20 years of the show how many women do you think have playfully said sexy banter to him.

Seems a fair comment to me.

Why is it you have one woman steps out and says she found him upsetting. Then other women recall how upset they were over 10-15 years back 🤷🏼

Couldn’t they have spoken out at the time.

I read somewhere Rod Stewart had said his wife was offended by Greggs remarks while she was on the show.
Apparently he had refused to eat something she had cooked 😂

You can’t make it up can you.

The trouble is that he looks the part!

If I was on the jury (fortunatley for the accused I've never been invited), Greggy would get my guilty vote!

I don’t think he’s a sex pest or anything sinister just a bit of a bellend that thinks he’s funny but is more cringey. Seems a bit of a witch hunt to be honest.

Too be fair though I haven’t seen ALL the “evidence” so to speak.

The Katy Brand tart thing was just poorly executed humour.

I hope I’m not proved wrong  :scare:

I predict he’s finished his career at the BBC. It was the tone of his comments, the complete lack of humour and grace.

And surely I’m not the only one that feels he is completely deluded about himself. “Middle class women of a certain age”. For pity’s sake, does he believe he’s a vibrant sex god? On the surface a more appropriate description is “middle class man of a certain age”, albeit one that acts like a teenager.

I think he’s daft.

There’s fairly strong indications that women did speak out at the time. And that BBC management did what it’s been very good at over the years…ignored the complaints.

Cue a full BBC “enquiry” followed by “Lessons have been learnt”. Rinse and repeat, keep raking the licence fees in, and everybody gets a bonus for running things marvellously well (as judged totally impartially by the BBC board 😂)

Offline Blackpool Rock

I saw a tweet put out by Rod Stewart who was basically gloating over Wallace"s downfall. I can't remember the exact wording but it was something along the lines of 'that'll teach you to insult my wife'
"You humiliated my wife when she was on the show, but you had that bit cut out didn't you? You're a tubby, bald-headed, ill-mannered bully. Karma got ya. Sir Rod Stewart."

Just read what led up to this though and it appears she seriously fucked up with her cooking and was running 10 minutes late -
During her time on the show, Penny was left embarrassed over her fried calamari and tartare sauce. Penny told the cameras while cooking: "I'm doing surprisingly well compared to what I imagined how I'd be doing. I don't want to slip up now."

As she plated up, Penny said: "That tartare sauce doesn't look like the tartare sauce I'd normally have." Gregg told her: "You used whole eggs instead of egg yolks." Judge John Torode added: "What I've got in here is a raw egg/oil milkshake. "Unfortunately, I can't eat that." Before being eliminated, Penny was struggling with her timings as Gregg quipped: "Mate, we can’t be 10 minutes late." He then branded her delay 'serious', before she was sent packing from the content.

Rod is clearly pissed off about this however it sounds like a car crash and on a show where the cooking standard is generally very high were they supposed to say it was great just to protect her ego  :unknown:

I don't watch the program but apparently Penny took part in Celebrity MasterChef in 2021 and reached the quarter final, I assume that Gregg and John Torode were both part of that show  :unknown: If so then her humiliation couldn't have been that bad else surely she wouldn't have returned  :unknown:

I don't think anyone has accused him of "abuse". It's not suggested he has touched anyone but that he has said things which are inappropriate. It's wrong and today it's unacceptable in any workplace but its not abuse and its not a crime.

I worked in an office a few years ago and there was plenty of banter, the blokes were all really guarded what they said for fear that anything may get picked up on and they'd get reported and 90% of the innuendo came from the women directed to the Men.

It didn't bother any of us but we did on numerous occasions comment how "I couldn't get away with saying that"

I experienced that too during my working career from the 80's till it seemed to disappear about 10 years ago.  Nobody seemed to take offence, nobody seemed to report anyone, and the men gave as good as they got.  It was banter, it raised laughs and helped building working relationships.

Folk need to learn to leave the past in the past with regards to what people have said to each other.  If its a fad to be suddenly offended by what was said at work 10, 20, 30 years ago then a large percent of us adults out there are fucked.

I think that he is just a bell-end, just from how he comes across on the screen.

I'm all offended now because Big Jean from the factory floor said she'd ride me stupid.  After all, it was only 35 years ago.

I think that sums it up really well, particularly the “he just doesn’t get it”.

You’d expect a guy in his position to have a bit more “savvy”, and (for instance) play the PR game a bit more adroitly.

His latest statement was a PR disaster. He could have made his points in a far less confrontational way. Just say something like “I’ve worked with thousands of people over the years, and indulged in a lot of friendly 2 way banter. I’m really sorry that some people have been offended. It was never my intention.”

If he did run his actual statement past his PR team…no idea what they were thinking. (Some people have suggested they simply don’t like him.)

But telly is different I suppose and we talking celebrity superstars here 😂.     So it’s news and will be kept going and exaggerated over and over till it stops selling and drifts into obscurity.

Yeah I started this thread because as soon as I heard what he said I just knew it would blow up in his face.
Whether that's right or wrong for whatever he has or hasn't done is a bit irrelevant as it's already prime time news and we know how people like to pick up on the slightest thing that's said or if someone says all the right words but perhaps not in the correct order.

It was fucking obviously but he doesn't seem to know how to read the room  :dash:

Working at several companies I have noted the older men who tell bad jokes to younger female staff are either ignored or humoured as the younger staff do not want to affect their promotion prospects. As they get older they are more likely to report the jokes/comments as they know what is really unacceptable in the workplace.
I do not know the person Wallace but a friend said he was a thick cunt, his statement issued seems to confirm that.

I'm thinking to grow a beard so I don't get mistaken for him on the street.
Just apologise, say it was before the "me too" movement and you've learnt from that. Everyone is different and has a different sense of humour. People pay a lot of money to see Frankie Boyle and Jimmy Carr. My problem is these "middle age , middle class women" are from his generation of banter. I would never dream of saying near the mark comments to a young person. However, to someone of my generation ....
Give the guy a break. Media are like hunters. There must be a bigger agenda.

I agree with the several comments here and elsewhere that he doesn't get it. The problem when you don't get it is that there's no point in someone explaining because you still won't get it.
There are comments that it's not difficult not to be a twat. It is difficult if you don't get what being a twat is.

Know exactly what you mean….I feel same way, unless something is extreme, just let it be.

But hypothetical question. Imagine you found out this guy who tried to bully you in the past had continued his behaviour and was now subject to a few complaints. Would you come forward and say “me too”, to reduce his chances of getting away with it?

Honestly not sure what I’d do myself in those hypothetical circumstances. Will have to ponder it.
