Perhaps there is a way to best introduce yourself
Maybe like:  "hi new here .. a few nice words about UKP blah blah been having a look around & have now joined" then deftly move on to what you are looking for
A please or appreciated etc wont do any harm
Well unless UKP is an information service, it must be as its 'needed'
