:D up the Jags
My Sky Blues take on Bundesliga Liga opposition  Werder Bremen tomorrow in a pre season friendly after thumping Everton 3-0 at home midweek.
I expect both our teams to be pushing for promotion in the coming season ulstersubbie.
Next week you take on the mighty Raith Rovers.  :drinks:

Thanks Mr B, will keep my eye out for Coventry's results this season and hope your boys do the business. See you've got Stoke away first game, tricky one.

:drinks: hopefully we'll both be celebrating a promotion at the end of the season. Every confidence in the squad we have this season. Chairman Doug King has had his cheque book out and we've made a few signings. Our new kit is plain sky blue shirts with white shorts so we look like Man City now. Hopefully we can play like them  :sarcastic:
* Raith Rovers are my adopted Scottish team so I will look out for the Jags results too

Rumours of Anthony Gordon still interested in going to Liverpool won't go away, with a possible swap deal involving Joe Gomez.

I know Newcastle were under pressure from financial rules but they really didnt handle it well; dangling the prospect of a return to his boyhood club and a better chance of medals
I presume they are going to offer him a nice new contract

Maybe nothing to do with a new contract. His roots are in Merseyside and also he probably wants to move to a big club with the opportunity of European football  :hi:

He was in Liverpools academy so if he goes will be an expensive mistake by them.

1) he didnt push for the move
2) a new contract would bind him longer to the club and increase his transfer value
3) a new contract - or more precisely more £££s might stop him from pushing
4) If he had any sense he would realise that Howe gets the best from him, partly by the Toon playing style whereas his previous boss at Everton didnt
Mind you Footballers arent famous for their common sense !

He's also still mates with Curtis Jones and others from his academy days.

Mmm. With all the injuries, from the outside looking in it seems to me that there is something wrong with Manchester United's training methods and medical staff. Suspect that won't change until the manager does. As far as I am aware both Arsenal and Liverpool returned from the USA with no injuries. Speaks volumes. Two professionally run clubs, and one a soap opera/circus.

Didn't Liverpool have loads of injury problems pre season and during seasons in the 1st few years of Klopp being there, I think that was put down to his "Full on" training and playing style resulting in injuries  :unknown:

So the Pre season opener gets underway at the weekend with the Charity Community Shield being played on Saturday, has this moved from being a Sunday previously  :unknown:

It's a rerun of last seasons FA cup final and a Manchester Derby so on the one hand both sides will want to win and no doubt Ten Hag will be going all out to win it but does Pep have the same commitment to what is after all a nothing sort of piece of silverware, i'm thinking he will be mindful that he doesn't want his players to pick up any injuries or over exert themselves as there is a long season ahead  :unknown:

Anyway good to see the FA have finally come round to scheduling the game at a sensible time with the kick off at 3.00 rather than a late one so the City fans will be able to get home while it's still light  :drinks:

latest accounts for the London Stadium the “underlying operating position for the group is a loss of £14.1million (2022-23: £15.8million)”. That would work out at a loss of hundreds of thousands of pounds for each of West Ham’s home matches.

The club pay rent of £3.6million a season but do not have to pay for heating, cleaning, maintenance or even the cost of goalposts and corner flags, while they keep all the ticket money and a share of the catering income.

One London Assembly member has referred to it as “the deal of the century”. The concession agreement struck when Boris Johnson was the London mayor did not even oblige West Ham to pay more in rent when the stadium’s capacity increased from 53,500 to 62,500.

Wonder where that sits in the FFP books

Crikey Gyökeres sold for €20m to Sporting Lisbon
With a release clause @ €100m
& Cov get 15% of the upside
Maybe €80m ?
Better hope he's sold & soon coz €9m / thereabouts would make a big difference to the ability to sign / pay wages to a big hitter for The Championship
No good this going to the end of the window
Or maybe have some scope to buy the stadium from FCB

Newcastle had lots of injuries last season. Are you therefore saying things will only improve there if they change Eddie Howe and the medical staff.  :unknown:

No. Far from it. Suspect one of the main reasons Newcastle had "lots of injuries last season" was due to the sheer number of games they had to play. That is many more than in recent seasons. Suspect Eddie Howe would now be among the first to admit their squad simply wasn't large enough to cope. However, also suspect Eddie Howe will learn from this and is shrewd enough and resourceful enough to do all that is required and necessary to put it right.

Ten Hag, on the other hand? Well..........

I saw some of Ten Hag's press conference earlier and he mentioned that at least 4 defenders were "questionable" as to whether they would be fit for Saturday's Community Shield match, which is farcical when the season hasn't even started yet! Even Inspector Clouseau could work out that surely something is wrong with their training and medical staff. Someone should have pressed Ten Hag further on this and simply ask him "why do you think you get so many injuries?". Maybe(?) therein would lie something of an answer....

Dealing with injuries is not part of Eddie Howe's brief, that is the responsibility of the Lead Sports Scientist, Head of Strength and Conditioning, Head of Performance, Head of Sports Medicine/Science, Head of Rehabilitation, First Team Senior Physiotherapist and their teams.

Even with all the injuries we still scored a record number of goals, just the defence let us down a bit.

Every club loses players to injury is an inescapable part of the game. It’s got nothing to with luck or ill-fortune, it’s just something you deal with.

Early days and all that but an interesting set of results from the Championship

I imagine both our Coventry and Leeds fans will have expected better starts but good to see some points for the newly promoted teams

Yeah, Coventry expected to be up there in the play offs come the season end were very disappointing at Stoke. Poor in the first half, better in the second but Stoke deserved their win. Early days and a long way to go. We play Oxford at home on Friday but they had a good result today. Can't take nothing for granted in this league. Considering we have a very strong forward line this season we were very toothless up front.

Proper feature / write up on the Sheff Weds / Plymouth game, I know Sheff Weds are probably considered a big club due to their history but Plymouth have always been minnows so they are only attracting this attention due to the big name manager, and for all the wrong reasons.

The article doesn't mention it but they said on the news about how Rooney has issued an ultimatum to his players that if they play that badly again then they won't play for the club again.
Could rapidly find himself without any players then but i'm wondering if he's worked out the common denominator of his teams performing shite is actually him  :unknown:

1st managerial casualty after only 1 game as Preston sack Ryan Lowe, they lost their opening game 2-0 but i'm thinking there must have been other issues bubbling under the surface though he'd got them to finish in 13th; 12th and 10th in previous seasons so not too bad in the scheme of things  :unknown:
