If you've logged into your Facebook or that Whatsapp thingy on the same mobile you've punted from then your details could be available to any girl that has stored your number on her phone!

Until now I've never installed Facebook or Whattsapp on my work phone, but wanted to check a few privacy issues I've heard about.  The most worrying privacy issue in this line of work is apps that import your contacts, Facebook and Whattsap.

So, I installed both Apps, clicked Find friends then clicked 'contacts' -  184 found.  Facebook used all of the numbers in my phone book and pulled out and highlighted the profiles attached to the numbers.  So I could see all my clients profiles who have Facebook accounts and have used their personal phones to contact me. Quite shocking!

So what? you may say, even if most people set their details as private I can still see the real names, profile pics and, if I was out to collect their personal info, with just a small amount of digging it would be very easy for me to find out a lot of personal info.

This works for both clients and girls to be fair, girls, don't use your personal phones for work, you will end up exposing personal details through these aps.  Also, if you have an Iphone, ensure you are not using your personal Icloud details on your punting/work mobiles as all Imesseges sent between client and WG will not only reveal the email attached to your I cloud account but will also send the messages to all other devices that also use the I cloud account, the kids Mini I pad, the wifes I Pod, get the idea?

Needless to say I have not and would never add any of these contacts as 'friends', this would most definitely overstep every mark

Put the shits right up me that did! The thought some random WG that you've contacted could then have your FB details and therefore access to family members, workmates, friends etc is not one worth contemplating.  :scare:

Indeed, its wise to be VERY careful. Personally i use an old Nokia that doesnt even have net access on it as my punting phone.

Yep not very smart to use your main smartphone for punting , best to just use a cheap as chips pay as you go job.

So far I have been using - yes I know it's crazy - but my work phone!  Eeeek!  So for a punting phone I want two things - obviously a cheap phone preferably pay as you go - but and here's the big thing - I want to be able to get onto AW mobile while on the road and run Microsoft OneNote and Excel / Office as that's where I keep my punting data (historical / proposed).  My work phone for some reason blocks AW (and UKP for that matter!).  Any preferences for the following:
Phone with a decent screen for viewing AW mobile
Phone with decent coverage networks for London / South East that give "good enough" bandwidth?

I have a very cheap Nokia. Cost £21 from car phone wearhouse and it came with £20 of credit on Virgin but was unlocked

As I have been on vodaphone I swooped my sims

With vodaphone for £20 freedom freebe you get 500 min talk time unlimited texts and 1gig of data

They have great coverage of the uk

Best package I have found so far

Its difficult to really truly know but one thing you can do is not include your mobile no in your account. You might of noticed you can actually log on using your mobile no. If you remove your no there's no link then to your Facebook profile.

Make a second account on a PC in an incognito window and add it as a friend?

One other tip regarding facebook.

You have to give them an E-Mail address when you register, never use that E-Mail address to contact a prostitute.

Or you could have a punting facebook account running on a punting smartphone  - can give some interesting results.

Good information, thanks for sharing.

It's scary how linked all of our accounts can be.

Different solutions work for different people.

If you understand the technology and pitfalls of a smartphone I believe they can be used.

If your work phone blocks adultwork its because you havent unlocked content block from your phone provider, you can however get round this by downloading and installing Opera browser, which does it for you. You can then just get a really cheap PAYG phone from Asda or Tesco.

Dunno if this has been mentioned before but I recently upgraded to iOS8 and when texting the predictive text shows stuff you have typed, so if you start typing "uk", then "ukpunting" will come up as a suggestion.

You need to reset the dictionary to default now an again to stop it.

Why would you use facebook on a punting phone anyway? The whole idea of one is to keep your personal life separate.

On the flip side I accidentally found the Facebook profiles of two pro$$ies when i stored their numbers on my phone.

I don't use Facebook so surely I shouldn't have to worry about this issue.

il have an old tesco sim but the phone doesn't hold charge for more then two days so it's a headache.
