Anyone offer some advice, etc.

My work has just mentioned me retiring as the few financial year comes along. TBH, I’m quite liking the thought. However, it would impact on my hobby…. Not that it’s a reason not to retire.. My questions are…..

1) I would have the means to continue this fun pastime. But, I’d have to make it a good single monthly punt. Also, what I spend count will need to count. No more saying that was £70 wasted, I’ll need to do much more homework. That leads me to the next issue…

2) I be home a lot more, so less time to search through here, AW, VS. As her indoors is also home….

3) What excuses do you guys use to lose yourself for an odd hour. Was easy between deliveries at work. But most my mates work, plus it’s risky using them as an excuse, if they then slip that they was doing something else at the time. Or so on…. My other half ain’t the sort to really question. But, definitely would if things didn’t look right….

Basically, I’m just curious on how other retired, or non working guys do the work around?

The gym has got to be the best one, it even gives you an excuse to come back freshly showered.

To save the expense of buying golf clubs you could say you're hiring them.

The Mrs will then start buying you golf gear for birthdays and Christmas.

You might draw a bit of attention turning up for bookings dressed like this though

I have worked from home for the past 8 years and I have done reasonably well in getting out for punts. I have taken many training courses away from home and visiting old friends. The best thing I ever did was get the other half a dog so it makes it awkward for her to go away with me as she doesn’t want the dog to go into kennels, so she stays home with the dog.
I am just retraining for a new career atm which will take me away from home here and there. All of which gives me opportunities to punt and I have reasonable excuse to be in certain places at certain times.
Maybe you could get a part time job which could give you the necessary excuse for punting OP

Get a part time job.
If you're not depending on the income you can pick and choose.
You don't want to be stuck at home all day.

I had to compulsory retire in my 50s from my profession.
I could have followed the example of many of my colleagues and set up a consultancy, but I wanted to try other things.

I must have done about a dozen random part time jobs before finally retiring in my 70s.
I wasn't interested in anything stressful. Had more than my fair share.
Apart from getting me out and about and meeting lots of folk in various jobs, it kept my punting funds healthy.

I took early retirement last year. I won’t say what my get away excuse is on an open board for discretionary reasons but it allows me 2 x meets (anything from 2-4 hours each) a month with a reg SB. What I give her would probably be 1 x 2 hour punt with someone off AW going by today’s prices. I’m not massively well off so can’t afford to do both but have enough to get by and having worked often very long hours since I was 16, no way am I getting even a part time job now. Too much going on to find the time to work anyway!

Can they do that?
Speak to a solicitor who specialises in employment law.

They can ask, but they can't impose & they way I read this, they are asking.
If the OP's employer is looking to down size, it may be cost effective to offer early retirement over say making somebody else redundant, then possibly having to recruit & train a new staff member when the OP reaches normal retirement age in a couple of years.

I just say I’m going out on the piss by myself.

Cycling is good for performance as well. I can shag like fuck after a few weeks of cycling.

Tasteless; my pink ones are infinitely more elegant.

It depends on what your skill set is, what about providing consultancy services to other businesses, and / or working on a part time basis?

Then you would be off to places where you couldn't be disturbed. Funds received could go towards your punting budget.

Novel idea.....try the truth!! You just might find she s not that bothered as long as you don t fall in love, have a good home life and generally don t be a sneaky liar.

This wasn’t the intended topic of my post. But it’s actually voluntary redundancy, but as I’m of an age. I see it as retirement…

I'm semi retired but have a couple of part time jobs. All the points you make are spot on.

Offline JRWK

I retired a few years ago, so my punting was reduced to once a month.  I just had to make sure my bookings were well researched or seeing favourites

Like you, my O/H is also home.  My punting days are reliant on a day she 'does lunch' once a month with her 'cronies',
this works for me as those days I make excuses such as meeting up with old work mates or suchlike

Offline Jayj

How about a bit of Voluntary work, you could mix that in with disappearing maybe a part time job few hours a week.
