.... they haven't asked for money or deposit and wasn't interested in my custom as the phone was switched off before I even got there. Can't think of any reason why someone would do that apart from maybe hoping to have the customer come to them instead
the deposit scam usually doesn't appear until you arrive at site, ask for the door number / room number, and then get told you need to pay before you get the details. Their assumption is that after traveling you'll be reluctant to abandon the trip and so pay up. Needless to say the girl was never there, so you never get the details. In your case they may simply have been busy scamming someone else.
the threatening calls are just a way of intimidating you into paying money just to get them to go away. Contact them, they record your phone number/whatsapp or similar and where possible trace you online. A few days or couple of weeks later they'll phone or text claiming either that you've "wasted" or "disrespected" their girls and demanding a bribe to pay them off. In some cases where they've managed to ID you through social media they'll threaten to tell your contacts that you were booking girls online, in other cases they'll threaten you with violence. Either way it's all wind and piss, tell them to fuck off.
But it's one reason why you should always use a punting phone and never ever link it to your social media accounts.
