So from next month your TV shows and Movies will include adverts.  Or if you pay an additional £2.99 they won't.  Time for me  to drop these jokers I think.  The only thing I was looking forward to was season 4 of THE BOYS.

I’ll probably drop it like you, but rejoin occasionally for the odd month to binge watch stuff like the Boys.

Install a VPN + uTorrent and you will never need to pay for a subscription again.
Banned reason: Habitual troll type posts after assuring that sort of thing would stop.

On the topic have you noticed videos on YouTube now have two ads before and after. These tech companies are completely greedy.

All of this will be downloadable in the usual places without adverts as it is now mostly for free or subscribing to someone else.

Isn't the advertising set by the publisher of the video on YouTube?

And the publisher makes money from the ads being shown, which can cover some of their costs

I bought Prime mostly for the delivery so I likely won’t stump up the extra for ad free videos.  The selection of films is generally pretty old and the same things come on and then drop off fairly frequently - so if the money genuinely goes to fund a better selection then that would at least be an improvement.

One thing that bugs me, and its not unique to Amazon, or to streaming, is that the UK increase is £2.99 and the US increase is $2.99, so you’re paying more (and its not even close) in some countries compared with others.  And unlike the free delivery element, the geographic size of the country isn’t relevant to how easy/costly it is to provide the streaming service, so there’s no reason for it except the extra revenue.

The quality of Amazon commissioned video is progressively more bland and uninteresting - as is the case with most of the other streamers.

No diff in price UK vs US that I can see. Take off the VAT from the UK price and it's the same as the US price, more or less.

some of the ‘Influencers’ are paid to sponsora product but the majority are added by YouTube.  The publisher is paid from the ad revenue IF the publisher is monetised (they need a certain number of subscribers/views on their videos to sign up for this).

Anyway, I won’t pay £2.99 PM to remove the ads.  I don’t wach it enough anyway and have it for the order Prime benefits.   it’s a bit cheeky given I’m paying for Prime already.

They're added by YouTube if the publisher chooses to participate in ads. Publishers can publish videos and not have ads shown in them. It's up to the publisher to choose.

Other than Reacher there's not a lot I want to watch on Prime. I have Prime for delivery not the TV.  I pay for the other streaming platforms for a month or two to watch something I want then I cancel it.

Watch very little on Prime so the adverts won't make any difference to me, I'll just jump on my phone or nip the toilet etc

Prime for me is about the deliveries, its literally my first port of call when I need something. They also offer excellent customer service

Ah yes.  You’re right but I’m guessing that will be the minority (successful influences rake it in).  I’ve only come across one influencer that did this and he pointed out why.   Anyway, the ads got so annoying I started paying for YouTube Premium.   It comes with YT Music which is why I  kept it. I doubt Prime ones will need as bad.

Freevee on Prime already does the ads. They can be pretty annoying but only last a minute or two.  I won't be paying extra to remove them. I'll just stop using Prime Video. I think they will learn the error of their ways if people cancel or stop using instead of paying extra for no ads.

Same here, I didn’t sign up for Prime for the streaming service, it was something that I automatically received as a member benefit when it was launched. Other than live PL football a couple of times a year - they’ve lost this contract now anyway - and a couple of cricket documentaries I’ve not used it. It’s purely for the convenience of free deliveries and it pays for itself.

I'm surprised a man of your calibre doesn't use an ad blocker.   ;)

I had prime years ago and dumped it as most of the content was poor. With the payment to be ad free may not be as it sounds. I wait to find out if they have followed SKY stream's set up. SKY offer what they call ad free for £5 per month, however it is not "ad free". It actually allows you to fast forward through the ads and is not easy to control, so much I sent it back and waited 6 weeks to get the dish and SKY Q again. With SKY stream I added a football match to view later, the wording is added to playlist as you cannot record. I then started to view the match later and decided to fast forward the ads before kick off. Then decide you seen the first 15 minutes live so you ff 15 minutes, then all the ads come on again. If you go too far and rewind to see a bit of action again, the ads come back on again. I will watch what happens with prime with interest.

Still better value than a TV licence.

More to the point the content I think is largely good especially for older, rarer films. The huge issue compared to Netflix is they rarely have films on there that are more than 10 years old unless it is something really mainstream.
