I did get a Breaking news feed on my phone yesterday but it turns out the fire was actually some Orange netting blowing in the wind  :D

You couldn't make this shit up but when you watch the video it does look like a fire however I was wondering why there wasn't any smoke  :unknown:

Unplanned events like that are some of the best large-scale response training the emergency services can get

You'd think they'd use bloody binoculars or something!

I don’t think it looks remotely like a fire at all! As mentioned no smoke!

Depends on what's being burnt - a gas fire, for example would produce smokeless flames.

Now that was a fire! Although I find it hard to believe that the structure was safe still after such a blaze. Today most of the surrounding area would be closed off after.

Where the supposed fire was there would be paint and the plastic lights and power cables so smoke would
Be evident.

That is exactly why it would have been a good training exercise, especially in the 45mph storm that was blowing

Exactly you can see why most comedians don't bother with satire anymore when the real news is more ridiculous

I would assume the tower is equipped with a wet riser and given the height quite a powerful pump? None the less it would provide quite a challenge should this have been a real fire and so, as scutty says, is also a useful exercise.

Times change indeed.

Of course most if not all, of the original iron/steelwork was replaced in I think the 1920's, as they had neglected to paint it and it was in poor condition.

It has been maintained ever since, unlike many Victorian piers which have now gone, a considerable number of them due to fire also.

It's not the 1st false alarm creating a big panic  :D

Because of the life risk and unique design, the attendance will be predetermined and regular familiarisation and exercises will take place.
There will almost certainly be a wet riser as a requirement for buildings taller than 50 m.

The fixed installation can probably be supplemented by water from fire hydrants.

As I have my own personal dry riser, I'm a bit of an expert. :D

The model village in Bournemouth once caught fire. Apparently the flames could be seen from 3 feet away.
