(I might also say its not a 'business' she is running and in the manner it seemingly is referred to here IMO, more a 'service' like dog walking or personal training - your not actually selling anything and its payment for a subjective perceived value.)

Absolute Piffle, so a service isn't a business, an Architect working from home (or any other professional "service") isn't a business?

HMRC state that anyone grossing more than £1,000 per annum for any services provided is classed as a business, e.g. dogwalker, personal trainer, prossie, AND needs to register as a business.

I would also say to the SP, perhaps a respectful, potential client (new one) can not afford £350.00 to see you for 1 hour and perhaps some consideration should be given to them from time to time, rather than simply 'aligning with your goals' or however you put it.

Such regular punters I imagine did help 'build' your business as you call it.

Seriously, she isn't a charity or some kind of community service.

If she has regular punters that PREVIOUSLY paid for her services at a previously lower price and did "help" to build her business, then that would be something I'm sure she has considered.

But I see no value in her offering reduced prices for some random new punter, who most likely won't return anyway.

Don't understand the distinction you're making between a business and a service. This is definitely a business and it sounds like the SP is making a success of it. Her basic approach to pricing is no different to Ryanair or a market trader, adjusting prices up or down to try and hit that (as she says) sweet spot that maximises returns. If she charges £350 or £3,500 an hour and attracts enough customers then good luck to her. She owes nothing to previous punters.

Don't understand the distinction you're making between a business and a service. The SP is clearly running a business in the service sector.  To quote HMRC (which lets face it, doesn't get quoted nearly often enough on this forum):
"Business activities are those of persons supplying goods or services including exploiting tangible or intangible assets with the intention of generating income by doing so on a continuous basis."

Not only is she running a business, but it sounds like she's making a real success of it. If she chooses to charge £350 or £3,500 per hour that's her - - - well, business. If she gets it wrong she'll have too few ciustomers and I'm sure nobody on here will shed a tear. If she gets it right and hits that (as she calls it) 'sweet spot' that maximises her income, then good luck to her.

I look forward to you signing off her company accounts against all the clients she's seen and monies received and validating everything has been noted

Think you're on to something there. I could turn up in a pinstripe suit and bowler hat, carrying a briefcase embossed with HMRC in gold letters. Then go through the SP's accounts, spanking her for every time the monthly bank reconcilations are out. Then maybe school her in the art of double-entry (book-keeping).

The possibilities (and innuendoes) are endless

Rightly or wrongly when I read that on twitter I immediately thought of this review

As did I. Alas it's the reviewers money so if he wants to pay £350 and not even receive OWO that's his business. Anyone with any sense wouldn't be spending that amount for such a limited service.
