Author Topic: Could UKP make it a bit easier for us to give it money?  (Read 6261 times)

Offline jseop109

My subscription ran out recently and I got an email about it, which of course I already knew, as I had tried unsuccessfully to login and got the subscription expired page.

Payment has to be by bitcoin or bitcoin cash and although I have done this before, payment to UKP is the only time I ever use bitcoin so my memory of how to do it was quite hazy. I ended up transferring the money to an address I had written down some time ago and which I believed to be UKP. I think it actually was UKP but the address has since changed and I fear my money has gone down a black hole and is irretrievable.

Of course you might well say more fool me, and I might well agree with you. But what's done's done.

I did later renew my subscription successfully, which is why I am able to post this. I have also made a few notes this time, while it is fresh in my memory, so hopefully it will be less of a problem next time.

But wonder whether some alternative means of payment might be possible (Paypal?). I appreciate this may not be possible as perhaps there are security and privacy issues for a site like this.

But maybe one thing that could be done would be to send the renewal email with a bit of notice, e.g. a week or two, instead of only sending it when the subscription has actually expired. Maybe also with the bitcoin payment address specified and, ideally, a few pointers on how to renew?

Anyway, just a thought.

Another good idea, I think, would be if subscriptions could be made for longer than one year ?
For example 2, 3, 4 or 5 years !
This would save new members the hassle of doing it every year.
Just a polite suggestion.

IIRC paypal do not support payments for anything at all in the field of sexual services.

I'm not saying other alternatives might not work, it's not for me to say. But I'm fairly sure paypal would be a nonstarter.

Do you have to renew every year

Offline Davey80

I sympathise with this.

Remember it being a bit of a nightmare early this year trying to navigate my way through to a crypto provider that eventually worked for me (and I think they have gone now so I’ll be back to square 1).

Assume we can renew a week or two in advance so there is enough time to work through any issues.

Have added a 4 year option now

That’s good news. It took me an over a week to renew my membership this time and I think I sent about £40 to someone else. I understand why you use bitcoin for membership fees but it is a nightmare for stupid people like me

Everyone think Bitcoin is anonymous but it's anything but. Every single transaction is on a public ledger (that's how the transactions are proved to be legit).
Ahhh, but the feds don't know who owns the wallet you say. Indeed not. But if you want to turn it into real cash you have to send it to an exchange, and guess what, that transaction is also public. So the feds can go to said exchange and say "Gimme the KYC info for this exchange wallet address, and tell me which bank account the fiat was paid to. Ta very much."
If I wanted to take payments privately, anonymously and untraceably, bitcoin wouldn't be my first choice.

I'm sure the USA's FBI will have far more important things to worry about than a punter in the UK paying to legally join a review site.

The kids now use feds as slang for the police. I still use bobby but I am getting on a bit.

Indeed they do and how fucking annoying.

Correct. Police aren't going to give a shit about this site as there nothing illegal. I was merely pointing out bitcoin isn't as anonymous as you think. If anonymity is the driver, bitcoin is a poor choice and a pain in the ass for users.

It's Head1, who owns the site, who has chosen bitcoin as the payment method so what makes you think he hasn't thought it through? I'm sure he would have given any pitfalls due consideration. Maybe anonymity isn't as important to him as you seen to think.   :unknown:

I'm interested to know what your choice would be ?

I'm no crypto expert, but Monero would be my choice if what I really want is anonymity and untraceable transactions.

How's that less of a pain in the ass for users ?

Offline jimbobted

I didn't say it would be less of a pain in the ass, I said it would be more private and anonymous for both parties.
For less pain in the ass I'd suggest Nano, as there's no transaction fees with that and transactions are instant

The issue with Bitcoin is transactions can take ages, hence people paying twice. Or they don't add enough to cover the fees and then have to make another payment to top it up etc.
I once had to buy something with Ethereum, the "gas fees" were fucking ridiculous and cost more than I was buying, so never again.

TBH all crypto is full of pitfalls for the unwary and is pretty horrid to use. It is what it is

Or you could do it the old fashioned way and ask people to send a crisp £20 to a PO Box  :D

That's hardly fee free either, have you seen the price of stamps lately? :D

That's why we encourage peeps to use BCH as fees are generally 0-1pence

Revolut lets you pay by Bitcoin or BTC

I suspect the benefit of bitcoin is as much ethics as privacy. All the online payment providers have restrictions over what you can pay for, even if it's legal within the country.
Bitcoin avoids this
