Offer handyman services - painting, fixing a garden fence, etc. If you do a good job, you'll be inundated with work.
You could earn your £300 in just a weekend.

Apparently tax free too.

A bit chilly for naked gardeners this time of the year, you could well end up with shrivelled plums  :scare:

This is fantastic advice.

While the amount can vary, sensible pricing affecting handyman services where you pick and choose your jobs, and working hours would be very successful.

I started a WhatsApp street group during covid, and still to this day once a month or so, someone asks if anyone knows a gardener, cleaner, plumber, painter. I mean by all means stay within your skill set, but one cannot find the workforce for these smaller type jobs by reasonably priced reliable local workers.

Be honest, polite and punctual and you will have lots of job offers.

I'm guessing it got a lot harder.

There is an initial boost when you have all the new sign up offers but eventually you start to run out of them.

Promo offers are also not that good anymore

Where I live getting someone to do a few simple handyman jobs is like your asking for the holy grail. I stuck a post on Facebook and said I would pay £15 per hour cash for painting a fence, I got loads of abuse saying I was underpaying and £25 per hour was a fair wage.

I pay £25 per hour for a gardener, he has all of his own equipment. I need him for at least four hours per week, but he will only do two - because he is so busy.

Get some simple, but classy leaflets printed with what you can / will do, your rates and a little background story. Most importantly, find a nice neighbourhood and post through their letterboxes and knock if you're man enough.

That's how my gardener got started, now he employs two people full time and has a smart sign written van.

You'll obviously need to have some gardening tools, or invest in some.

If you want to sit at home and earn, then you'll need to have or develop an in demand skill - there's tons of people sitting on their backside thinking that money is going to drop in their lap, or they're going to make money from Bitcoin or some other get rich quick scheme. The only people making money from those schemes are the ones selling you courses on how to do it.

If you want something, you have to go and get it.

I think you need to take something you have some expertise in and see how you might monetise it.
For example, a couple I know of are very keen travellers and when they travel they produce meticulous schedules for themselves. These they have expanded into travel guide e.g. 3 days in Barcelona, week in Tuscany etc - what to do, where to go, where to eat, how to use trains/trams/buses etc. They put them for sale online and sell them for between £5 and £10 pounds each. A nice little earner.Second, a friend helps people build their collections of first edition books. He tells me several times a month he is able to buy a book for £10-15 and sell it for £80-100. Someone else I know (of) simply buys cars, cleans them thoroughly and sells same car - now spotlessly clean - for a few hundred pounds more. Good luck.

Offline Razor Boy

I have an office cleaning side hustle that brings in an extra £700 a month to pay for punts , pays for my car etc and also provides a hidden time excuse with the other half too when I want to go punting at times ( saying they have requested an extra deep clean) so win win !
The cleaning contract fell into my lap so it’s not something everyone can access but all you need is a work ethic and get on with it. I listen to podcasts when cleaning and it’s all fucking easy to be honest.
I would suggest dog walking/minding if you get on with our furry friends. Not an actual skill needed either, only empathy with the owners and liking looking after the pets.

He is buying them wrong or selling to cheap  :D.

Buy the right cars from the right source and you will not have to clean them, I only clean those that are a tougher sell.

a few hundred quid is a tight margin if you buy something with issues you miss. It is not as easy as you suggest, you need a very good eye, and knowledge of vehicles to buy, and have to deal with an awful lot of numpties to sell. Many have tried and failed.

Now I see a lot of Asian groups come in, and they will clear the clothing rail of reduced stock, and buy the whole lot, and get them at a fraction of the price.  Then re-sell them at there own market stall, at an inflated price

i have thought of a franchisee opportunity on a few sites. Invest and work from home.

Most Franchisee deals are scams, in the sense that you're not really buying a business, you're actually buying a job.

It's the same with buying any business, most people make the mistake of not actually buying a business to invest in and have someone else to run. They buy the business and end up in reality doing a job.

So, just ask yourself the awkward question. Will the business continue to run and will revenue come in if I go away for x weeks? If it won't, then it's not a real business, it's a job.

Side hustle, it allows the hustler to add an air of excitement to what is frequently a micro business that takes up all your time, but doesn't actually make any money.

Because it's more likely to cost them money, rather than make money, there won't be any tax for them to pay anyway

I suppose it is technically a second (or third) job, but to me it was the temporary flexible nature of it that categorised it as a side hustle.

Back in the 80’s a friend of mine would save all his annual leave and work during the summer in Spain, to me this fits nicely into some of the original side hustling. Now I guess it’s Uber driving (or one of the others) you maybe have a feee weekend and a semi decent car and you can work, but if you’re busy for 6 months no issue.

You'll need to get licensed with TFL (if in London), including passing an assessment, (a topographical assessment, English language requirement and a Safety, Equality and Regulatory Awareness assessment). You will be required to undertake an 'enhanced' criminal records check from DBS. A medical is required too.
Also, register your car as a 'private hire vehicle'. (you'll get a 'tax disc' style badge for your windscreen).
You'll need 'Hire and Reward' insurance as well and be expected to register with HMRC. You'll get fuck all depreciation allowance on your vehicle, 10% IIRC).
You could be looking at nearly a grand to get started, without the cost of the car and insurance.

It used to be good money for Uber drivers. I've had manty journeys where I had to break the silence and start chatting shit with them and quite a few would be on a grand or so a week. Obviously, before deductions.

Now they tell me it's pretty much hand to mouth.

To be honest, I think we're digressing from what a side hustle is commonly meant to be. I've always considered it to be a second form of income from a sideline business not necessarily one where you get an hourly rate which is effectively a second job.
