For a few years before my last wife destroyed my finances I live half the time in Normandy. The people there were lovely. Whereas the Parisians were obnoxious. But come to think of it, for most of my life I lived in Chelsea, then moved to Bristol where people are much nicer and the strumpets charge less.

There is some crossover - Terriers used to be used for ratting - my, now late, Jack Russell was an absolute demon for it, I must've picked up dozens of rat corpses in the back garden when he was around, the local squirrels took their life in their hands when he was walking off lead too!. I think he had a stronger prey drive than most as his grandfather had been a "working" terrier.

Alas no: a great man. I have been to so many places and experienced so many things I never expected or deserved that I look back with startled disbelief and enormous gratitude.

But nothing to compare with the heroic Root, whose greatest achievement besides funding The Establishment may have been to live in a brothel.

I spent four very entertaining days recently in a flat rented by a friend - Kelly-Ann-Kink - to entertain clients and sit on my face but I think Henry spent much longer.

His book "All the Ladies and the Gentlemen too" is excellent. So much more admirable a person than creeps like Blair or Johnson.
