Unlucky Ireland, deserved a point against The Matildas.

As a side note, the nearside Assistant Referee was quite tasty and her shorts looked like they were sprayed on!   :D

I'm not really bothered about the quality of the football on show, although I am watching it.However Sweden play their first game on Sunday and I'm definitely taking an interest in that one...

Alex Morgan will always be the GOAT.

On breakfast TV this morning Naga Munchetty said she's expecting the lionesses to roar down under????

I've heard a few squeaks and whistles over the years and lots of fanny farts, but that's about it.
Wonder if she means raw down under?

Unconvincing win for England in their first game against Haiti.  England have struggling to score in open play  in 3 games now. Their goal today scored from a re taken penalty.  They are going to have to "up their game" quite considerably if they are going to make progress in this tournament.

Recently "pumped" 7-0 by a boys team.

Does anyone think that a footballer who plays for Stirling Albion should be on the same dough as one who plays for Real Madrid?

Perhaps if womens football was as popular as the men's game she would have a good argument. I have noticed a few of these group games have been played in stadiums that are far from being full.

Women should receive the same percentage as the men got for their world cup, but the same amount? No, as they're only bringing in a quarter of the revenue of the men. If they want to receive the same amount as the men then bring in the same revenue.

I refuse to believe they even bring in a quarter of the revenue. More like 5-10%.

The standard has slightly improved in recent years but not by much. I saw bits of the England match and Haiti looked better. I have watched certain Women’s sports for as long as I remember(Tennis, Athletics, Olympic events like Swimming, Cycling etc). The thing is these sports grew organically and are not a too dissimilar standard to the men for me to enjoy them. Football, Cricket and Rugby seem to be shoved down our throats until we accept them. I just can’t get into them. They are too slow and are too far behind the men’s equivalent for me to take them seriously.

Our gorgeous lionesses scraped through another round, but the players missing from the Euros are definitely being missed.

Watching what happened to Lauren James when she went arse over tit trying to do her knee slide goal celebration, and the injury to Keira Walsh, reminded of my 8 years playing semi pro in Australia.
After scraping chunks of skin off your knees and thighs, you soon learn that you can't do slide tackles on the hard rough turf they play on down under.

They'll need to adapt to avoid further injuries.

the only way to improve at any sport is to play better players; we have a pyramid structure so put them in it
Perhaps start with the FA Cup ?
As long as women play isolated they will only improve slowly if at all

i dont agree, its the number of girls playing that needs to be upped, no surprise that the americans are the favourites, given the number of girls who play at school age, although i havent seen any games, there doesnt seem to have been the goal fest that is a sign of inequality, the standard has gone up since the last world cup.

That's why many soccer physio's try to persuade players not to do knee slides!

And it is still incredibly poor. Greater skill and athleticism can be found in non-league football and/or schoolboy level.

I’ve no issue with women playing football or even it being on television, but let’s not pretend it’s any good.

Spot on. There have been many instances over the years where a player has celebrated in some way and caused themselves an injury.

I think even one player (for the life of me can’t recall) after scoring, ran off and did a somersault. Got it wrong and landed badly breaking his neck.

i played in a kickabout , and one of the players was a female pro, plenty of spin turns, and good shooting, no different from a bloke i was in goal obviously. i think womens football is fine, dittoe for womens rugby

I think it is great with top skills. More entertaining to watch then men as they get on with the football and less ponching around.

I've noticed that this is beginning to creep into the women's game now during this World Cup ( injury sham.)

Just watching the start of the Germany v Colombia game, have to say I've never seen a national anthem sung so enthusiastically by any side, men or women, than how the Columbian lasses sang theirs.

Not like the Spanish, they never even bother to sing their one.  :(

BTW, I do know why.      :D

Caught the second half of the Germany v Columbia game...a great watch. Had everything, skill and commitment from both sides, a spikey edge to it and high drama right to the end with Columbia snatching a very late winner...impressive

Amazing the stuff you learn on here!
Apparently the other three countries with no lyrics in their national anthems are:-
San Marino, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. :hi:

Also Lichtenstein shares the same national anthem as the UK apart from the lyrics ( same tune)   :hi:

What a great win for The Lionesses again, although China made it easy at times.
Their goalie must have been reading too much about Australia and decided to go walkabout.
Nevertheless, some great goals, and we're through to the quarter final with a tough game against Nigeria.

England haven't been looking that great recently but back to their very best today, just what they needed going in to the knockout stage.

Not quite - we are in the last 16.  Rather face Nigeria than Australia with a fervent home crowd behind them.

I'm quite impressed with the WWC. I was given a ticket to one of the women's football games in the 2012 Olympics. It was.......OK. Nothing to write home about, few fouls or even tackles, and it ended  up 0-0.

The WWC, however, is very watchable, with some real skill.

Offline fudi_maar

I'm loving the womens world cup. I find it a massive turn-on. Some of the girls are hotties, and watching their hair bob up and down when they run seems to be a fetish that I never knew I had.

Whilst watching, I often fantasise about all 11 of the girls in the showers afterwards.

Anyway, some of the football is pretty good too. There's an 18yo Colombiana who scored an absolute blinder against the Germans. She's fast and got natural skill.

Loving it!

I remember the Yanks playing a friendly against someone  a few years ago and the really thrashed them and went over the top with their goal celebrations not showing any humility to their opposition so I am glad they have been knocked out of this World Cup  :yahoo:

Post of the day! She said something that annoyed me at some point - can’t be bothered remembering what it was (at my age it’s a effort to remember what day it is) but I filed her under “arrogant cunt” ever since so was delighted that the USA battered the Swedes and still lost

Phew!

Nigeria were a tough team and had more chances, but I didn't agree with the panel who said they dominated the game.
If they were so dominant they would have had no problems beating a team that played with 10 players for about 40 minutes.

Young James was marked out of the game and showed her nasty petulant side to be rightly sent off.
Well done girls!

Up the Lionesses!

It was a stupid and pathetic red card. Reminiscent of Becks v Argentina, petulant and half hearted.  If you’re going to get sent off for lashing out at least make it worthwhile  :D

I actually don't see it the same way as becks, although both were stupid and with no malice aforethought. Today was a definite red card as it was a clear stamp for no reason, whereas becks, also for no reason, was just a petulant flick of the boot (as I remember it anyway).

you missed out the play acting by Simeone who fell over as if he had been hit with a 4x2
Probably both about the same level of stupidity but todays potentially caused more injury - I'd be surprised if she plays again in this world cup

Stamp?  Technically maybe, but more like she stood on the arse of the player on the ground without applying any force.

I'd love to put it up the Lionesses!

To digress, just been watching the Australia - France penalty shoot out and it occurred to me that a couple of possible chances may have been missed - is it against the Laws of the Game that if the 'keeper saves but the ball is still in play for the penalty taker to run up and stick it in the back of the net or is that considered unsporting?
On the booking, it's strange how certain nationalities seem to be more prone to exaggerating an "injury" than others - for me the classic example (in the men's game) was a Brazilian player who had the ball kicked at him a bit hard, it hit him in the legs, but his hands shoot up to his head and he went down like he'd been shot! Maybe FIFA need to do video reviews and impose suspensions for feigning injury to gain advantage?
