Getting tested - advice

Recently tried a punt but as there's a Mrs at home figured I should probably get tested - how does it all work as I've no idea?  I'm Liverpool based so are there any recommendations on where to go?

Just choose a clinic, and then decide whether you want to use a drop-in service, or if it would be more convenient for you to make an appointment.

At mine, I use my real name and give them my GP's details etc., but you can tell them not to contact your GP. I think at others all you need to do is give them any old name and a mobile number for the results.

It's fairly quick and painless, don't worry! But wait two weeks if you think you might have been potentially exposed to something, re. HIV detection - earlier obviously if you have any symptoms.

I went 29 Aug to the local drop-in clinic.  I go every 3 months approx. NO HASSLE. Fill in the form they give you. I give my real name, address and doctor details because there is a big box saying NO DOMESTIC OR DOCTOR contact - then give a mobile number for the results to be sent.  My final results (pee test +  blood test) arrived yesterday - all clear.

You may be inclined to think that all the other folk in the clinic waiting room are prozzies or customers. Wrong!  GPs often send patients because they have some other recurrent problem. Eg Mrs has been because she gets recurrent cystitis (Has nowt to do with me because she and I have no sex).  All to do with her hormones I think as she is at the change.

Most clinics have a male only or female only clinic one day a week if that would make you feel more comfortable

I can only echo what has already been said. What I have found where I live, is that the evening drop-in clinics tend to get very busy. Last time I tried one, it was supposed to be open until 8pm. I arrived at 7 and was told there were no more slots available. I went the next day to one which opens at 8am, and there far fewer people and I was seen quite quickly. One thing, make sure you are properly hydrated. They could not get enough blood out of my arm (I'd been distance running the night before, it was hot, etc) so I had to go back. I was upfront, told them I had slept with several escorts, and they were still very helpful and friendly. Results sent by text message, easy enough
