Bit worrisome; he is one of our more senior members ( In every sense of the word ). I do hope he's OK.

Along with Goldfinch and Littlefoot who have not been here for a while, hope these esteemed members are OK.

Might I add The Film Director, not logged on since July'22. Sound contributor particularly on the TV/movies thread, hope you're ok FD.

how do you know this information? I mean how do you search for existing members details?  :unknown:

Certainly miss Finchy, with his lightning fast indexing!

Yeah, he had often posted the link before I finished editing my review. He was certainly on the ball. Littlefoot was the "go to guy" for fbsm reviews in the West Midlands.

I suspect they are no longer with us. Sad but inevitable

Sure there was a thread called missing in action, or MIA, which had a list on contributor's who have gone MIA...... I've looked using the search facility but can't locate it.
I'd Hailwood to the list, not been on here since end of December 2022. Good bloke.

This MIA thread was my first thought also. Finchy was lightening. Hope none of those mentioned are gone for good.

HW was MTB at one time wasn’t he? I remember him well from my early days.

Yes, Hailwood & MTB where the same, I think there was a name change for some reason.
I last exchanged messages with him just a few weeks prior to his last signing in date.

Seeing his age it wouldnt be surprising if HP had gone over to the other side, up there or down there.

I think if you are retiring a simple "well thats it see you guys" would be good.

I hadnt seen a few others on other groups they were fine, just given up being online!

That's good to hear  :hi:

HP (and his username) go back many years on Forums. I know he was having health issues, but he has also had breaks in the past so you never know?

Then again none of us are immortal and old age is not always a factor.

Yes I know the powers that be have a regulation in the rules, but seeing this is the only forum that we punters  can chat to each other on with our expences i think we make sort of "friendships" even if we'll never meet each other, and by and large we can form our opinions of people we agree with or sympaise with whatever, and when someone goes missing in action we do fear the worst glad to hear that Chaffinch is around, and hope HP turns up bit of a legend he was IMHO!!

 I agree , just a brief word as to why they will no longer be on here (without being a drama queen as the rules state.) I seem to recall  someone who posted a lot of reviews doing this some time ago because they had started a new relationship

I am glad to hear Finchy is still with us, I believe that previously his wife was unwell so hope he's bearing up and OK  :drinks:

The problem is that allowing resignation speeches just opens the floodgates for people to "Have their say" about anything and everything they aren't happy about.
That said I do think there is a difference between a full on resignation speech of someone whose disgruntled and a regular contributor posting to say they have had a change in circumstances so won't be active for a bit, at least that would perhaps put people minds at ease rather than just suddenly one day and Zero posts in which case you sort of fear the worst has happened

Yes, particularly if you've messaged each over a period of time a sort of 'friendship' can develop as with any online social media.
I've kept in contact with a few other old codgers like 'home alone' who've now gone AWOL.
Sometimes  I get the impression that when  age related performance issues curtail punting activities, not being able to do reviews may make them feel of less value to the site and so they just fade away.

Think you will find that was Smiths

He came back briefly but then gave it up and has not logged on for about a year if I recall, not checked, he's easy to find as still at the top end of the review stats

The rule is a good rule and 'Au Revoir' threads are a bad idea. The Smiths one was allowed to run, but only went on to prove the reasons why they are a bad idea, especially as he returned. Only to leave again  :D

Nothing wrong with threads such as this one especially as they do sometimes give answers such as Goldfinch.

If you are leaving for reasons other than sudden death and you think people may speculate and would like them to know you are OK then message another member (assuming you have that option?)

They can then possibly update other members .... unless of course they also leave  :D

Students notebook was a good forum friend to me, who no longer posts, as ive assumed he has moved to pastures new.

This place is great for sharing and friendships, born from a shared interest and information pertaining thereto. Buts its so much more that that (for those that wish it to be).

I have shared a pint on more than one occasion with a fellow punter, and discussed many topics aside from punting.

Long may it continue, and those who are still with us remain so for years to come.

Pleased to hear Finchy is still with us too, albeit not with 'us'

Exactly this.

Far more than paying for a shag to be learned about, discussed and enjoyed here.  :drinks: cheers.
