Saying to any person what he said is nasty. There is no justification for it. I would call out and disapprove of any other comments made about anyone else.
This is nothing to do with politics, keep that out of things. It has everything to do with decency.
You should never speak bad about anyone who have sadly died.

What are your feelings on Hitler and Putin?

Edit to say, Oh! and Savile as well?

Really? You think she is in the same category as Hitler and Savile? Putin isn't even in that category either ... and he also isn't dead.

Ken Bates, former owner of both Chelsea and Leeds has died. A colourful and controversial figure back in the day.

If you are equating a dead former Tory MP to Hitler, Putin or Saville then I would be thinking you have a lack of intelligence.

That's sad to hear, Neil was a very capable actor over a number of years. Check out My Brilliant Career (1979) and Dead Calm (1989), two of his best films.

Something weird seems to have happened as he had previously said he had cancer, then he announced he was cancer free and then he died quickly surrounded by family. Maybe cancer or a heart problem?

What a horrible thing to say about anybody, let alone an 80 year old lady.

You should be ashamed.

She was indeed "an 80 year old lady" and the manner of her death was utterly, utterly appalling. However, the old lady 'defence' is a bit ridiculous when she was still an active media commentator and held what many would see as horrific views (on gay people for example). So, without comment on those views or the political party that she most recently represented, you cannot use her age as a shield from criticism of her decisions in life.

Horrific views? She was close friends with gays, including Iain Dale.

Hard to reply without straying into religion or politics so I shall try hard.

She held and espoused views, including (but not only) on the right of gay people to even exist (!), that many people viewed as horrific. Not least gay people who are definitely not mourning her now, whatever the manner of her death. But while she held and espoused those views generally and vociferously, she was as nice as pie to individual gay people who she had a reason to 'get on side', be it politicians or media contacts. In short she was a raging hypocrite.

Not often I disagree with you but "good fucking riddance" was the wording that Flying Blue was saying was a horrible thing to say.  The "let alone an 80 year old lady" was an add on to the sentiment.  You cannot in anyway, in my opinion, defend that comment because of any views that the person held - other than in the very extreme which is not the case here.  (She was not Hitler.)

Criticism of her decisions/views is of course Ok, although personally I think when someone dies is a time for grace, but to glorify or celebrate a death based on them is well out of order.

I say that as someone who is nowhere close to her views.

But I was ONLY rejecting the notion that "an 80 year old lady" was immune from criticism, when this particular 80 year old lady was not living a private life but rather still 100% in the public eye saying what she always said. That's all.

But it was a comment about killing her not a comment about criticism.

Yes I probably a being pedantic, but in these circumstances I think words matter.

I get it, but the comment I was responding to was "What a horrible thing to say about anybody, let alone an 80 year old lady.". I thought my comment stating that the circumstances of her death were utterly, utterly appalling was important. Nobody deserves it. So to be very clear, I reject kayak's statement. My response was ONLY about someone using the reason of her being "an old lady" to shield her from criticism. I guess technically it was bolstering defence from criticism rather than shielding. We all get old, but age is no reason to hide from criticism of what we have done in the past, especially in this case when age was clearly not preventing the now deceased from still doing what they always did.

Another one is Possession (1981) with Isabelle Adjani.
Quite disturbing viewing but utterly uncompromising.

God bless you Sam Neill.

My heart sank when I heard this. I always felt a warm presence on screen when he was on. As a young kid I thought he was an absolute dude in Jurassic Park. As a late teen I loved his humble and subtle performance in the dish. In my mid-30s I found his appearance as a grumpy widower with a heart of gold in The Hunt for The Wilderpeople to be so loveable and charming. He also reminds me a bit of my Dad.

As much of a fan that I am, I actually haven't seen a lot of his stuff. I am going to watch The Dish again as it is fantastic and will work through some of his work. I might check out At the Mountains of Madness, it hasn't got good reviews but I like John Carpenter so it might surprise me.
