Roger Cook the investigative journalist has died, he was 83. I enjoyed watching him back in the day, he was a New Zealander by birth, never did detect a kiwi accent though.

Think he was the 1st or one of the 1st to do this kind of investigative journalism going after nasty fuckers and confronting them face to face rather than just reporting.
Funny as fuck watching him running through / over hedges especially when there was a perfectly good gate to walk through  :D

Seem to recall he had a few death threats back in the day  :unknown:

BBC New showed a clip where he entered a shop, and then was chased out, and the shop keeper beating Roger with a iron bar.  Seemingly Roger suffered from broken ribs, and injuries to his legs

Wonder if this shop keeper is still alive, and caught the news story and video

Started out in radio so would have been encouraged to go RP back then.

I remember him chasing some target over a wall and the wall collapsed under him.

Brother of TV star Caroline Flack dies

The brother of TV presenter Caroline Flack has died - six years after the star took her own life.

Paul Flack, 55, was found unresponsive at his home in Sandringham Road, Norwich, on 21 June. He died later in the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, an inquest has been told.

An inquest into the graphic designer's death opened at Norfolk Coroner's Court earlier.

Being an avid beer drinker myself (no jokes about being Scottish thank you), I have frequented many of their pubs over the years. They do have some lovely pubs, Cheshire Cheese and the the Princess Louise spring to mind, down in that crazy metropolis called London. My main gripe would be their cask bitter called OBB it's bloody shite, stick to the SS bottles which are far better.

I'm not sure if it's apocryphal, but I've heard more than one report that he's sacked more than one of his pub landlords on the spot, who then had to immediately vacate the pub premises, losing not only the pub they managed, but also their accommodation.
So many of his once great pubs in the Manchester remain long-term closed, which bears testimony to his draconian style of management.

This is very common in the pub trade.  I know somebody who was an emergency landlord for a brewery and he'd be sent in when the incumbent was suspected of wrong-doing.  The landlord(s) would be locked out or confined to quarters while the problem was investigated.  The locals didn't like it as it often meant no more after-hours drinking.
