One of Scotland's best and most loved rugby union players, Scott Hastings, has died at age 61.

He remains the most-capped Scotland male centre of all-time.

Scott Hastings won 65 caps for Scotland over 11 years (a record at that time), represented the British & Irish Lions on 12 occasions on two tours and played 13 games for the Barbarians

Just read it this morning.
I saw the band years ago in Shepherds Bush studios. It was being filmed and recorded by the BBC.
When the set ended. The band asked the audience if they wanted them to continue.
The BBC turned off the lights and electrics to the stage so the guys played and sang acoustic 😂

They just had fun.
Always loved this guys voice

RIP

Richard Carpenter, the other half of The Carpenters alongside his late sister Karen, has died.

Seems he very much alive

Quote
As of May 2026, Richard Carpenter, of the famous duo The Carpenters, is alive. Rumors or reports of his death likely stem from confusion with a different Richard Carpenter (a British screenwriter who died in 2012) or the tragic death of his sister, Karen Carpenter, in 1983. Richard continues to manage The Carpenters' legacy.

I was a regular viewer of Wish You Were Here and booked quite a few holidays on her recommendations.
I also remember her presenting the old Come Dancing, when the show was actually a dancing competition.

One of the most gifted tenor saxophonist's that Jazz has ever produced. He played with Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk back in the day, three giants of the genre. There's not many of the old school left now, but he leaves a wonderful legacy, RIP Sonny.   🎷🎷

Former Ireland rugby captain Fergus Slattery has died at the age of 77.

The back row forward is remembered as one of Ireland's greatest ever players, winning 61 caps between 1970 and 1984, 18 of those as captain.

Slattery was a key member of the Ireland side that won the Triple Crown in 1982, part of a famous backrow alongside John O’Driscoll and Willie Duggan, while he was also involved in the 1974 Five Nations winning squad.

Slattery was also integral to two of the most iconic British and Irish Lions tours. In 1971, he was a member of the only Lions squad to win a Test series against New Zealand, while in 1974 he was part of the famous Invincibles, who went undefeated in 22 games in South Africa.

It's hard to imagine TV from the 80s to 2010s with Anthony Head. Such an integral, talented, yet unassuming actor.

I saw him waiting for a tube at Paddington Underground station in the 2000s. Just a man sat, drinking a coffee, eating an apple.

The Buffy fan in me, wanted to annoy him for autographs and anecdotes. Instead, I respected a man savouring five minutes rest and privacy.

Rest In Peace, Giles. EM

Soho is a different place to what it used to be in the 60's. Unless you were one of the aforementioned, you probably would have swerved the area for being too seedy, containing lifes underbellies.

The clean up has seen it become a good choice to locate the types of businesses one might get in the design field, it now has a good choice or restaurants, cafes, shops and clubs and galleries.

I don't see what "huge damage" there is. It's all changed for the better, but there's still an element of seediness for those that require it.

I'm pretty sure there was something on the TV about this, and it was just one guy putting up cards in all the phone boxes?

No there were droves of them at it covering a large area, all the way out to Shepherds Bush in the west, as I recall. Although I availed my self of the information, I thought it was a very bad look, just as well it was killed off by the explosion in mobile phone ownership and the subsequent death of the red phone box.
