In the film Apollo 13 he played the Captain of the ship that picked up the crew.  When he was offered the cameo, Ron Howard the director wanted him to dress as an Admiral for the part - Lovell's reply - "I retired as a Captain, so I'll play a Captain"

His career was legendary.  His entire astronaut career was over before I was even born, but his bravery and leadership were an inspiration.

That was Linda Lewis who died a couple of years ago.
External Link/Members Only

Her website hasn't been updated for a number of years - External Link/Members Only

She had a heck of a vocal range.
Back in the 1970's Stomu Yamash'ta got this performance out of her, duetting with Jess Roden.
It's hard to tell whether the high notes are her or Klaus Schulze's synths.....they're her

BBC News - Boy, 4, dies after being hit by bus as he walked out of hospital

A tragic accident. Apparently he was alive under the bus and then in a panic the bus driver reversed and went right over him. He didn't have a chance. He had been visiting his grandmother in the hospital.

If you are a 4 year killed by a bus when visiting your grandmother you are famous!

People paying tribute to someone who has died is a nice thing, personally I do not believe we need to pre qualify the person who has passed away.

I was under the impression that this thread was about famous people who have recently passed away  :unknown:

This thread is for anyone to post their obituaries of anybody that they admired or heard off and they think other members may want to hear their reports.

What is a famous person to you, may not be a famous person to somebody else.  :unknown:

An obituary is a public announcement of a person's death, often including details about their life. It's a way to inform others of the passing, celebrate the individual's life, and provide information about memorial services. Obituaries can be found in newspapers, online platforms (Including this website), and funeral home websites.

There is nothing sadder and more tragic then hearing (or reading) the death of a 4 year old.

Great character actor, will be remembered for all sorts including a lead in Cathy Come Home and as Joe in Eastenders (Pauline's husband after Arthur).

Memorably for me he was the very indifferent boyfriend in House of Whipcord.

Been plenty about this on the breakfast news, she sounded like a ball breaker if you clashed heads with her and i'm thinking quite a few did but they were also saying she was fair and the same to everyone

The sort of actor who appeared in a lot of tv programmes and films but you could never put a name to the face.

Not specifically about this man but if anyone doubts the frankly insane bravery of those awarded a VC please watch Jeremy Clarksons documentary and watch it to the end !

Gordon Frederick Rorke was born in 1938 and was responsible for one of the greatest changes in the laws of cricket
Until Rorke the bowler had to land his back foot behind what is still called the bowling crease - where the stumps are placed
Rorke developed an action which allowed him to drag his back foot so he could release the ball as much as 6 ft nearer the batsman - a terrific advantage for a fast bowler so the law was changed in 1963 to a front foot one

Many of his videos would come up in my facebook feed, and such a nice guy, and when dealing with the defendant, very companionship.  In my eyes, one of the best judges, and very fair in his final judgement
