A sweep of Katie hopkins shows have been cancelled by the venues.  I presume due to her right wing opinions.

I am not a fan of Katie hopkins but it does seem freedom of speech means to many "I agree with your opinion so you deserve freedom of speech but I don't agree with this person opinion so therefore your speech is not as important to the one that shares my opinion "

Well you are making a presumption. If they were that concerned about her views they wouldn't have accepted the booking in the first place.

Much more likely is that the venue found it commercially unviable to continue with the booking. Sponsors, patrons, members and donors on which theatres are dependent don't want to be associated with Hopkins.

Hopkins will bleat about freedom of speech, when she is about curtailing the freedoms of others. Also freedom of speech doesn't give you the right to break the law, something which Hopkins has been found to be on the wrong side of. Theatres may not want to be associated if she libels others or breaks hate speech regulations etc on their property.

She is a professional troll and will now act as a professional victim.

Just read an article and looks like she only had to stump up about £130K which is surely chicken feed these days

I agree with you about not being able to stand her and also about defending her right to speak.  I think the Nazi comparison is not really appropriate - although you are making a similar point that Lineker made, we should be aware of what was done in the path the Nazi's took and be careful not to follow that road.  Niemoller was talking about people being disappeared to concentration camps not people being cancelled from speaking engagements.

We don't have proper free speech when people can be harassed for social media posts they made years ago or when antiwar demonstrations are cancelled because the venue comes under political pressure not to host it.

But where Katie Hopkins is concerned she does have freedom of speech
But that doesn’t mean venues have to let her speak in theirs, nor that venues who have accepted her cannot cancel her booking

She has freedom of speech in the UK, but that comes with the consequences of other peoples freedom to respond and for her to be liable for the consequences of libel, hate speech etc

My original post was to be my final thought on the matter.
My subsequent posts have all been responses to attempts to dredge up beefs from another thread.
I'll leave it here.
