Regional Energy prices?

So we're being told energy prices are falling,today had my new estimate from British gas and yes unit price of gas has dropped slightly but they've put standard charges up,eleccy also gone up ,here's the price change,1st set of figures are up to March next set are new price,so we're all being told that we have to suck up the rising inflation but energy companies and food suppliers can go on making more profits.

Bloody hell your standing charge for electricity sounds exorbitant.

I've just got my tariff starting April from Shell Energy. Broadly similar to yours except that I have Economy 7 for electricity so have a less costly night rate (offset by a dearer daytime one !)

Standing charges; 43.75p/d (E), 29.11 (G).
p per kWh: 41.69  (E,day), 20.91 (E,night), 10.20 (G)

I was pissed off at paying £266 p.a. standing charges before using a single Watt hour of energy but you're paying £332 !!

All energy is expensive now. Next door has a wood burning fire, and logs have almost doubled in price, he says.
Coal and coke also high priced.
Oil fired central heating also costs more.

One of my neighbours has solar panels, he says they are cheap to run "but" expensive to install now.

Only answer is wear more clothes.

More pissed off that the companies are allowed to get away with it,i'm fortunate that the hike won't hurt me but i'm in the minority,shithole of a country

I'm on a 5 yr fix so none of this is affecting me other than the government help reducing my bill.

When did you enter into this...the longest I could find when I was switching was 2 years. No fixed offerings were available at all when it came to an end.

2021. More by luck than planning. I can always pay the cancellation fees to exit early should prices drop considerably

Fair play, I'm jealous.

Happy to be contradicted on this, but my understanding of standing charges going up so much is to pay for the bail out of failed energy companies, which is down to the energy regulator Ofgem, which allowed any man and his dog to set up an energy company, with negligent oversight by Ofgem - and men and their dogs did just that and raped the companies for £££, and now we all pay the price.

The standing charge pisses me off no end especially since it's recently been hiked up to about double on the electric.
Martin Lewis has complained about it as for low users it's a disproportionate amount of their bill

My energy going up in June 2023,  from £1800 per year to £3079 per year. Octopus energy. Got an email today.
May have to give up punting 
Not sure if the "energy cap" covers energy used only, or energy plus standing charges ?
My standing charges / daily charges, will work out at approximately £281 annually (electricity & gas). {what a rip off}.
