Hope everyone is doing well

Recently in the last 6 months the front part of my hair has started thinning, haven't got an bald spots , just a thin patch of hair in the front that used to be thick.

Contacted my GP, did a blood test and results came back fine. GP recommended applying Regaine Minoxidil 5% twice daily on scalp for at least 4-6 months. Advised me not to take finasteride

Purchased Regaine Minoxidil 5% in liquid form. Used it for the first time today and felt a slight itch/burning sensation for a few minutes after applying but now it's fine.

Just curious if any guys on here have tried Minoxidil 5% for 4-6 months and had any success?

No, not tried it. I bought some clipper's.
Male hair loss has been a thread topic on several occasions.
This may work, so might snake oil :hi:

From what I understand, the earlier you try to keep it the better the chance of success

I'm very impressed you managed to see a GP for hair loss. I haven't managed to actually see a GP for years. I remember speaking to one on the phone once, but generally everything is handled by nurses. I can't imagine hair loss would even get you past the receptionist (when you eventually got through on the phone that is ...)

Can you imagine the excrutiating conversation you would have to have with the receptionist when they invariably ask why you want to see the doctor?

How old are you?

Many things can cause hair loss.

What blood test did the GP do?

Turning 30

GP tested B12, Folate, Zinc, Vitamin D, Testosterone, prolactin, SHBG said the results came back normal but my folate levels looked low at 7.7 ug/L which ranges from 2.90 to 50.0 ug/L

I also bought Nizoral shampoo, Meille Rosemary mint oil and from what I have researched Minoxidil 5% in foam form is less sensitive on the scalp than the liquid form (The one I have bought and used can’t return it now unfortunately but only purchased 1 month supply)

It’s not hair loss I am experiencing, it’s hair thinning, hair still grows but curls not straight. I hope the minoxidil aided with a few products will help thicken my hair again

No didn’t have to go through that hassle just booked online via patches app. Completed the form, got a message from staff informing me GP would call me. Spoke over the phone, picked up blood test form, did blood test the next day. Simple.

When I was late teens, I went to the doctor's with similar.
Female doctor, who literally laughed me out of the surgery (!). Most likely male pattern baldness. You seemingly can nowadays slow the inevitable, but you will still go bald.
Unless you have deep pockets (Beckham , Ramsey; klop etc) you're hair will thin.
Clipper's, and confidence will get you through this shitty part of being a bloke 👍

Your doctor seems to be good and has given you a thorough testing.

6 years ago I had bald patches on my beard and went to my GP. She tested testosterone level and was fine. I then got sent to skin clinic who said it was probably an auto-immune thing. A few years late I discovered I had a vitamin D deficiency and took vitamin D supplement and bald patches disappeared.

What level was your vitamin D at?

Started thinning on top (rear) in my fifties. I’m pretty sure if it had started in my thirties I would have carried out the same procedure.
Bought some shears and gave myself a crew cut. Never looked back.  :D

Of course always being an ugly bloke. Having lots of hair was never going to make much difference looks wise ……. Was it. ?

Is that eating them or smearing mashed potatoes all over your head. ?

In the good old days it was said if you skinned a rabbit and put it on your head……….. from a distance it looked like hare.

I’ll get me coat.

stop using shampoo, avoid hot water, cold showers only, only get my hair shampooed at the barbers, avoid sugar.

Vitamin D 116 nmol/L (Range 51.00  250.00 nmol/L)

Initially I thought I was deficient in B12, Iron

It’s mostly genetic that cause your hair loss. Diet is nothing to do with it unless you’re not eating enough.

Minoxidil might work but what happens if Its stop working in a few years time.

You have 2 options.

1. Get a hairpiece toupee if you have the money.
2. Buy clippers and shave your head everyday and get use the bald look.

My brother used minoxidil tablets with good effect, rather than the foam or liquid.  This was on the recommendation of a hair restoration doctor with whom he consulted.  Apparently the oral minoxidil is the most effective, and it also avoids potential skin irritation caused by the topical applications.

He started to see a thickening of his hair after 4 months, with it getting progressively thicker over time.  He's been taking the stuff for 2 years now, and he reckons he got the full effect after 12 months.  Overall, its a minor to moderate improvement in thickness rather than anything major, but he's happy.  His doctor has said his hair will return to the old thinner levels if he stops taking the tablets.
