Author Topic: Explicit sexual content in mainstream film and TV  (Read 4668 times)

mr.bluesky’s thread of the three most liked films reminded me of a thread I started when ukpunting was owned by the previous owner. This was a thread dedicated to explicit, and or, erotic content in mainstream cinema. In other words horny stuff that is not porno.

I started with Walkabout with Jenny Agutter.

External Link/Members Only

I first saw this bathing scene in the mid-seventies when I was a horny teenager and it aroused me intensely. I also remember saying in my original thread that this is tame stuff by today's standards, but it was very erotic for me at the time.

There was also at about 1976 a TV drama I believe called “Two People”, which was a play about the sexual relationship of two adolescents which included some nudity and caused a bit of a debate (most probably a masturbate for most viewers!), does anyone remember this?

Apart from Walkabout there have been many films depicting erotic nudity and realistic or actual sex in the mainstream cinema, as well as broadcast television. Some TV episodes such as this in Big Brother Hungary:

External Link/Members Only

And a silly sexual contest in France:

Sexy underwear is now so mainstream to the point that female athletes now regularly wear thongs:

External Link/Members Only

And either nobody comments on it because of PC or they just accept this. When did thongs in public become fashionable?

Here are some films that are mainstream and contain explicit sexual content, starting with a couple of classics;

In The Realm Of The Senses

Caligula (Uncut Version)

And in more recent times the following:

Intimacy

Nymphomaniac

Brown Bunny

There are, of course, many other mainstream films with erotic content from the recent past and new ones being released right now; so I invite you all to add to my list of horny mainstream content.

Two tv series that spring to mind are Game of Thrones and the TV series Spartacus which had no end of scenes of a sexual nature. I remember one particular scene of Lucy Lawless sitting on a couch with her slave slipping her hand up her dress pleasuring her

Great thread, I always spot stuff and TBH prefer it to porn.

I agree.

I find the unexpected erotic content of mainstream media to be sometimes more of a turn on then the overtly explicit porn, which you know will be there, whereas in the mainstream it seems to be more of a sexual tease, which can itself be more erotic than blatant gonzo style porn. Just my opinion.

I really love it when a well known respected celeb gets naked totally out of the blue. Eg. Sarah Silverman in Take this Waltz. Or when a Celebrity has photos leaked like Carol Kirkwood BBC weather girl...

Normal People is quite explicit and well worth s watch.

For a start, it's naturalistic and usually well written in comparison.

Most films by Tinto Brass though many are a bit silly and not HD. Same for Russ Meyer. Breillat makes good films, many explicit but not necessarily a turn on. Frivolous Lola is one of the better ones.
Aniara is quite tasteful.
Sex and Lucia is tasty and a good movie.
The Dreamers. Beautiful classic.
Love. Enter the Void. (both by Gaspar Noe) but not my taste.
Lust, Caution. Modern Asian classic.
Baise-Moi. Interesting mostly over the censorship issues.
Immoral Tales. Several short films.
Wild Things.
In the Cut.

Sadly there are far more mainstream sexually explicit movies with nasty stuff than those with good healthy horny sex.

Some great films here.  TBH I think 'Lust, Caution' and '2046' might explain some of my own predilictions afterwards.

Became hooked on Tinto Brass after Channel 4 showed about five seconds of 'Miranda' once.

Mimi Rogers and Full Body Massage gets mentioned a fair bit on UKP, I wonder why?

There’s a few searches I use sometimes — mostly as I get bored with the “conveniently positioned lampshade” that stops me being corrupted at the sight of a woman’s vagina. I have limited interest in porn, but if two people are having sex in the movie then the build up is part of it. How many times do you have sex and looked at the woman’s cunt? Exactly. Why deprive the viewer?

It’s possible to search IMDb by keyword. There’s lots of keywords like vagina, open-vagina that simply mean the sex scenes haven’t had the cunt removed. Many of the results are low-rated as movies, obviously a high rating is better, but sometimes I think they’ve maybe been down rated for the amount of sex.

One I missed was Pleasure (2021) which is a cracking story about a woman entering the porn business recognising her unrealistic expectations and rising above the pressures of the industry in her own way. Sort of.

I think most of the ones I mentioned are available uncut on Netflix, Prime or YouTube as they’re considered ’artistic’ though it’s hard to be certain what’s been edited out. There’s many more, varying in quality, if one scans the grey channels (which rules don’t allow us to name of course).

If you look up a movie on IMDb and scroll down, there’s usually a “Parent’s Guide”. If it’s got a red marker it’s worth clicking on to see the comments. You can see whether there’s fanny involved or just breast, butt and artificial groans! Next use the “JustWatch” app or website to see if it’s showing on any of your streaming services. “Pleasure” is currently available for rent on Apple TV without a subscription. Timings, I’m told, can vary between cinema and streaming — yet it can still be a guide. In this case “Pleasure” is listed as 1h49m on IMDb and Apple. (Assuming Apple are displaying streaming time, this might suggest it has not been cut).

If so, good. I feel a moral outrage at art, anybody’s art, being mutilated by censors, and even more so if it was done by unaccountable corporations rather than just the BBFC.

There was a load of dirty foreign films in the 00s. Ma Mere, Piano Teacher, Debutantes (I think it was called), anything Breillat. These films aren't necessarily sexy though they are all good films though.

Also Lellebelle and Hotel Desires I remember being explicit.

Hotel Desire (38mins) has some really nice natural sex. Daft premiss (Blind man meets hotel chambermaid -- yeah, I said it was daft!) but the very explicit sex part is quite lengthy and rather sweet.
Now & Later is sweet and fairly explicit but rather boring.
Tenemos la carne (Mexican) highly surreal sci-fi.
Sexual Chronicles of a French Family ('Sexual Chronicles of a French Family') a slightly arty, light-hearted comedy, has decent plot for its own sake and lots of sex.
And your Mama Too ('Y tu mamá también') moderately softcore but a great film.
River of Fundament This is heavy duty high art by Matthew Barney. A 5-hr job so you might not want to bother just for the graphic sexuality. Saw it ages ago so can't remember much about it.

A small note-- there's lots of mainstream films with what could vaguely be called 'explicit content' so maybe worth defining what we mean. Wolf of Wall Street, a top movie, is hardly stuff you'd take your granny too but the actual cocks+fannies are minimal.

I think I put a short review of Pleasure on the movies thread a while ago. Challenging movie and in a good way. I'd put it among the most innovative films this year. Mubi including it helps to underline that it's a serious film I guess, as are those others you mention.

Breillat's on a mission. There's a slightly sexy bit in The Fat Girl, and also Sex is Comedy which is one of my favourites. Romance and Anatomy of Hell on the other hard are quite hard to watch and explicit but pretty unsexy.

I put a short note about Wrong Turn 4 on the films thread which is gore-fan viewing... but the sex scenes (no fanny) are enjoyable. Tenika Davis has remarkable tits. I also like the fact that the sex scenes – two of the them, one near the start and one shortly before the murders start – aren't interrupted by horror scenes.

I loved Heather Graham getting fucked in killing me softly.. she looked so cute and it was rough, I never get bored of this scene.

Otherwise someone mentioned Tinto Brass movies which I admire, especially The Voyuer and Monamour, great sex scenes.

Christina Lindberg is a Swedish beauty and I loved her sex scene in thriller and journey to Japan.

The emanuelle and black emanuelle movies are watchable. I've seen em all and my favourite is emanuelle in America and around the world.

Ive seen almost every Hong Kong cat3 films have some graphic sexual scenes which i love. My favourite is Sex and zen 2 with shu qi and sex and zen 3d with saori hara. So many more but can't recall at this moment.

Game of thrones is a good shout, lots of nice scenes, episode 1 ending, doggy style on top of tower was nice and Emilia Clarke was lovely.
I mean margot Robbie and just random scenes in wolf of Wall st got me excited and there wasn't even any proper sex scenes.

There was this Canadian actress I liked back in the 90s  Shannon tweed. Body chemistry 4 had a good scene.

There’s something quite horny about seeing Juliette Binoche (e.g. in Elles) or Margot or some other well-know star suddenly get her tits out, isn’t there? I think it’s when we realise we’re not always just attracted to a body (or in the case of Binoche, her acting). In fact isn’t it the thing of this thread? We can get far more explicit stuff on tap in regular porn: it’s the spontaneous randomness, surprising us from a believable character that really makes the juices boil.

Wolf was so intense a movie. The sex wasn’t just icing on the cake: more like real diamonds from an exploding glitterball.

I had a crush on Susan George, cute English beauty. The sex scene wasn't great but the build up was nice in a movie House where evil dwells. Where she tells her husband to leave the house so she can invite another guy to fuck her.

I'm not promoting rape at all... but just saying so you know who she is, she is famous for the infamous rape scene from Straw dogs with Dustin Hoffman (great film by the way) which was controversial at the time because some say it looked like she was enjoying...

One consequence of the censor's edit was that it looks as if she's enjoying being done up the wrong in it too.

Basically this thread may as well be titled 'Art house erotica'.

Intimacy starring Mark Rylance and Kerry Fox was notable for breaking down some barriers (unsimulated fellatio) but I didn't find her at all attractive.

I re-watched Straw Dogs a while back but came to the conclusion that it was valid in its day but old hat and just not very nice by today’s standards. Rape is horrific and if you put Irreversible and Baise-Moi together they bring out both the physical and individual psychological horror. But they’re not nice films to watch for any eroticism. (Breillat was responsible for the latter getting un-banned in France, most interesting.)

The trend perhaps has been the rape-revenge movie, from the shitty I Spit on Your Grave to the rather excellent 2017 movie Revenge. The second has it just as a minor plot device, a bit shocking, not explicit or erotic; but what makes the protagonist so sexy is her amazing fighting spirit. Non-stop edge-of-the-seat stuff that makes G.I. Jane look a bit tame.

I really think it’s time that normal, erotic, explicit, consensual sex was normalised more in movies. Not made a big thing of it, but just getting rid of the lampshades and other silly objects weirdly used to block a normal view. There’s all sorts of controversies over “horrors” of “the male gaze” (Kate Millett and so on) but we end up with too many films edited for the “woman’s gaze”, over-romanticised, the occasional glimpse of a penis and not a fanny in sight. No wonder teenagers learn everything from porn.

And why do American actors and actresses always pull the sheets up to their neck and wear underwear in bed, but the French don’t?!

Chloe Sevigny and Rosario Dawson were both made by Kids, so it follows they'd disrobe or more in subsequent films.

Actually looking back now, Harmony Korine overrated or what?

Larry Clark, plenty of Guardian acceptable sex in his films.

Probably the worst for sexual violence is Japan. The vast majority of pink films I've seen have a rape or sex and a murder. Assault! Jack The Ripper is a cracker.

9 Songs. What a boring and meaningless film that is. Just an excuse for Michael Winterbottom to show off his crap taste in music.

Forgot to add on TV they've shown:
High Art - pretty good film, but more erotica territory
Lolita (1997) a really good film especially for a reboot
Damages - also Jeremy Irons and a really good film
The Dreamers - mentioned loads of times and a really good film
Five had a lot of Sex Comedy shit most of it crap: Confessions, Adventure of, Percy etc
Red Shoe Diaries on Five and Shannon Tweed films, most of it you could just about knock one out to
Was Swept Away shown? Not the Madonna one had some explicit-ish sex scenes
L'Ennui - has the gorgeous and big titted Sophie Guillemin

Probably. Was he ever highly rated in the first place? He dabbled with Dogme95 in Julien Donkey-Boy, kudos for trying, but was it really he just likes to hang out with cool people? I see something called Spring Breakers got a couple of minor awards but I can't say Gummo or Kids blew me away and Kids was only good with the help of Sevigny and Larry Clark.

Trying to think of some others I've seen that are worth watching for their own sake but with added explicit content.

Two 'afrty' ones...

The Tribe (Plemya; 2014)
Weird and rather good experimental film with no spoken language, adventures of deaf teenagers in a boarding school somewhere or other trying to survive. Ukrainian. Explicit sex.

Trouble Every Day  (2001, by Claire Denis)
Sort of a sophisticated vampire movie. Stars Béatrice Dalle. Lots of almost explicit rather than very explicit. Had quite a wide release in its day.

Voyage to Agatis (2010)
Mix of nastiness and sexiness. Explicit. Seemingly innocent yachting cruise goes intentionally wrong. Low budget. Not really overly worthy or amazing but has a story, reasonably titillating and exciting.

Just going through my porn (from movies) collection and wanted to add a few others..

Bruce Willis fucks this girl in color of night.. I found this to be a nice sex scene.

Unfaithful, although we don't get to see full nudity, the build up and the diane lane gettin doggied in the hallway is a nice watch.

Antonio Banderas fucks Rebecca de mornay in a rubbish film Never talk to strangers  but I did love the short sex scene.

Monsters ball.. Billy Bob Thorton fucking Halle Berry was a good sight.

Very random but I enjoyed the short funny sex scene in forgetting Sarah Marshall. Russel brand and Kristen Bell.

And finally...a random movie i saw.. Jason's Lyric.. I loved seeing Jada Pinkett getting fucked.. I can picture Will Smith saying them famous words "keep my wife's naked body.. out ya fxxkkin eyes"

Marmalade mentioned in the film thread the movie Wrong turn 4. Crap film but I wanted to add.. the sex scenes were nice.
Trivia.. the girl having sex in the beginning was on Big brother. Good looking fit girl.

Over the years, ive seen and noticed many horror films  especially the B grade ones usually have a nice sex scene with a good looking actress.
Wrong turn 4 is a good example and wishmaster 4.
I wish I can remember the rest..I've seen so many but tend to forget names of the b grade horror films.

For something whacky I strongly recommend Dogtooth.
Apparently there's more than one version, with and without a lot of fairly explicit nudity. I can't remember how much nudity was in the version I saw as it's such a memorable film in its own right. Also the same director's slightly later film, Lobster, though that doesn't have any nudity to write home about. Probably the less you know in advance the better, but just so you know, they're pretty off the wall.
