Author Topic: Same Day STI testing  (Read 3393 times)

Good morning

I used to get the STI testing kit from a branch of the NHS but I’m now out of the postcode area.

Is there one of these same day STI testing places in Central London that people would recommend. No symptoms just thought I’d go for an MOT.

Thanks in advance.

Dean Street Express (the Soho clinic LL Punting is referring to) is the only NHS "same day results" service that I'm aware of in London, but increasingly difficult to get appointments for a check up without symptoms/proof of contact text I've found. 80 Leadenhall Street is another good NHS option , but also requires appointments and results are 2-5 days usually. Nowadays, I go for the postal kit option in most cases.

If I really want same day results, I'll go private with London Doctors Clinic who have branches all over town.

Just had a look at that doctors clinic you mentioned. £334 for a full comprehensive checkup, Damn! That's expensive. I thought hookers were taking the piss.

Are there any nhs walk in clinics you chaps can recommend more generally? It seems increasingly difficult to fund one post covid. Im less fussed about the same day results, but I find the home test kits difficult to use. I just dont seem to bleed enough for the blood test.

I have the same problem with the home test kits. I wish someone could invent something easier for people that can't bleed well. So I have complete empathy for you.

Yeah it's expensive, I have found them to be very reliable/efficient as you'd hope at that price. A gono/chlamydia test without the bloods is cheaper at least.

There is at least some comfort in knowing that Im not the only one with this problem!

The private full screening mentioned above seems very pricey, but I might have to bite the bullet at this rate.

If you have a disability that makes it extremely difficult to get blood from the home kits, then I know that some clinics if not all, will let you book an appointment to get a blood test done at the clinic.

Let's hope maybe in the future they could do all the tests without blood.

I think 56 Dean St do postage test kits that you pick up from the clinic, then post off. Not same day but without symptoms its impossible to be seen in person. SHL website is where I ended up going for mine.

Hi

Just to say thanks to Hendrix for his recommendation. I went to the London Doctors Clinic and found them very professional and easy to deal with. All clear as well.

Slightly strange thing happened (I don't think I imagined it). When my blood was being taken the Doctor leant forward and I felt her breast in my open palm. It was there for 20 seconds or so and at one point she pressed in a bit deeper. It might have just been an accident, but it was definitely noticeable.

It was mildly erotic, not something I expected when I went in for an STI test!

I could be wrong but I’m pretty certain the London Doctors Clinic was bought out (pre-Covid) by a venture capital or private equity firm. If I’m right, that would explain the higher fees than a “regular” private doctor. Can’t say more without risking outing myself!

You got the full professional service. Did you ask the price of extras?

I’m trying to picture this. As your arm is usually low to allow the blood flood. Is her knockers touching the floor  :D

Been scratching my head on this one lol.

Good on the all clear  :hi:

I have had this challenge. Solved it next time by warming up hands in hot water before doing the blood test. Blood flowed much better then.

Hi

She put my arm on her desk with a pillow under it and leant forward. I’d never had that either!

Where in London can I collect a kit instead of it being in the post?

Dean Street Express in Soho for sure.

Just an update on Dean Street and self-testing. So I don't really like collecting blood on my own and then I don't really need HIV testing every time either as I'm not super active nowadays with WGs and always have protected sex apart from OWO. So I'm happy to get tested for only Gonorrhea and chlamydia. I collected a test kit and sent it back with only urine sample and it was all good and I received the results for only those tests and no further questioning about lack of blood sample. In case helps someone...

Why don't you get vaccinated against Heps A+B, and do Prep before seeing a girl? It is good for your peace of mind. At least, you are protected against the worst STIs.

You can be vaccinated against heps in a Travel Clinic and the treatment cost about GBP240, but you are protected for the next 30 years... It should be enough.

I really would not recommend doing this if you’re having OWO not bareback sex. The risk is quite low for oral anyway, and minuscule for oral HIV transmission ……and Prep can have side effects for many people. That’s why they don’t currently give it out to just anybody on NHS you need to be high risk. Unless you’re having regular bareback?

Hepatitis vaccines can be a good idea though I’m not against those

Dean Street Express in Soho for sure.

It is a bit confusing because there shop signed as Dean Street Express at 34 Dean Street where I think you can still walk in if you have symptoms or have been told someone you have been with has symptoms. But ideally they want you to make an appointment.  I do not think you can walk in and get a test just because you would like to be tested, unless you are a sex worker and registered with them as such.

On websites the address for DSE is 56 Dean Street but that is Dean Street Clinic where they provide consultations and treatment by appointment only.

However it is from the reception desk on the ground floor at No 56 that the self test kits are given out but to get one you have to be registered with SHL. I think you tick the box for delivery of the kit to another address rather than saying you want it to go to your home address.

My condoms have broken three times with a WG. So, even if you do not do BB, you are still at risk.

Indeed. I'm vaccinated against heps.it is more risk with OWO that make me want to test.

I got the hep B vaccine free via the local nhs sexual health clinic. It is a course of three injections spread over 16 weeks and it should give protection for the rest of your life. I asked if I could have the vaccine during a routine sti screening. They gave me the first dose whilst I was at the clinic and the follow up appointments were arranged at the same time. After completing the vaccine programme, at my next sti screening, the clinic did a blood test to check the vaccine had worked. This was pre Covid so process/rules might now be different.

Men who are gay or bisexual get Hep B, HPV, and mpox vaccines for free at sexual health clinics. I always wondered if lying was worth getting the jab, but then always think better of it. I've paid for my Hep B and HPV vaccines, expensive, but there is no price on peace of mind

You can get urine-based tests for Gono/Chlam/Herpes and 4 other STI markers (it's the same as London Doctor Clinic 7-in-1 test) for £95 at branches of Randox.  You won't get HIV testing there.  London Doctor's Clinic are very good and despite expensive 'packages' were not interested in upselling, which was good.

There is conflicting research about the benefits of HPV vaccination after the age of sexual maturity because it is so prevalent and almost impossible to test for in men unless syptoms are present (women can identify it thruogh cervical screening).  A good proportion of the population (up to 80%) are believed to have benign HPV.  External Link/Members Only.  I guess it can't harm you to be vaccinated though it would not 'remove' a pre-existing HPV infection (which would normally be cleared by your own body over time anyway).

Hepatitis B full course vaccination is available at superdrug for £137. Personally think it's worth it for what would be the cost of a punt.
