The old Irish that came around that time are indeed mostly very tolerant of other immigrants, In Ireland it is very different, even to those returning, more so if they return with money.

Small, almost  all white population for years, predominately one religion, think about it.

In Ireland I get loads of stick  , plastic paddy usually  but a lot worse at times.

It is very different now, but years ago I drove a taxi in a tourist town, had to be thick skinned with my accent  , with the locals, with the Yanks they were disappointed not to have a local driver, kept asking what a fucking Australian was doing driving a taxi in Ireland
