Now after the commonwealth games have finished the BBC seem to be giving the European athletics  championships saturated coverage.  I can understand the commonwealth games getting a lot of coverage after all it was staged in this country and happens every four years but the Europeans are every 2 years and staged in Munich.  Now I understand the BBC doesn't show much live football and lost F1 a long time ago but what few sports they do show they go completely overboard with their coverage. What next ?  The world conkers championships , the world tiddlywinks championships . I've got no gripe with the BBC showing Athletics, Tennis, Snooker as it obviously appeals to some people but its on both BBC channels and on for about 10+ hours a day

Actually there’s at least a few sports that I’m surprised don’t get more coverage.

Two that spring to mind are table tennis and all-in wrestling (yes heavily choreographed…maybe  energetic dancing rather than true sport, but tremendous fun).

But yes agree with you…BBC does go overboard on some events. I tend to think that about Royal Events as well as the sports you mention.

Of course they go over board they have to make the most of the few cheap events they can afford.

Wasn't there the World Championships just before the Commonwealth Games? It feels like there's too much of it, been on for weeks. I presume the  cycle of years got out of kilter with covid?
20 years or so ago I would have lapped it up but I just can't be arsed with it anymore - dull as ditchwater. I presume there must still be an avid audience for it though so I suppose Beeb has to cater for them as a public broadcaster, as long as they're not paying through the nose to do it.

It's not just the european athletics championships though.

I know it was before COVID so it hasn't had chance to really imbed itself but the first edition of the European Championships was in 2018 and it was a number of sports holding their competitions a the same time. This was done in several cities including a load in Glasgow. The idea provides a greater opportunity for a number of sports to get greater recognition and exposure outside of the four yearly cycle of Olympics.

Now these champs are all in Munich this time. And include gymnastics, rowing, cycling, swimming, beach volleyball, climbing and canoeing as well as the athletics.

Just had a look and we are top of the medals table at the moment.

True. Isn’t it the Americans that want to expose less — instead of the natty little bikinis that are the traditional costume.   :D

Nowt wrong with either sex looking hot. Russian tv used to have more ‘exposed’ angles. The Beeb seems to like distant shots or that automatically cut away from any crotch area.

just watched the speed climbing - Jesus !

These guys and girls go up 15m walls quicker than I could do 15m on the flat !

Nice to see a pure competition - after all the Gymnastics crap

True Olympian competition in the pure sense Faster, Higher, Stronger

Not Prettier as decided by some judges !
