Author Topic: Tech question-broadband adult filter  (Read 991 times)

Question for the techies on here.

I have recently got a new Broadband package with Sky and noticed that with hard-wired or wifi Adultwork and Viva are not accessible to me.

I figured that they are hitting a filter with my router which isn't a problem as I can change the settings.

What is baffling me though is when I disable wifi on my phone and then connect via 4G the sites are still blocked as are any other type of adult site.

How can this be if I am using a mobile data signal??

Is your 4g also provided by Sky ?

Something changed a few years ago, whereby internet providers put customers on restricted or ‘safe’ settings by default and you had to change it to ‘give me everything’. It’s usually a tick box somewhere, but with Virgin I just called up and asked for ‘all the porn’

No but oddly enough we had a power cut a few months ago. Obviously wifi was out of action but my 4G signal with Vodafone was also out???

We discovered the hard way round here a few years back that the backup power supplies for the phone towers don't last very long
Virtually all the phone cells went down after 12-24 hours

Are you sure they worked on your mobile carrier before?

As three my network blocks adult sites unless you call them and tell them to remove the filter.

You can test this theory by:

Install Opera browser
Switch off Wifi and make sure mobile data is on
Try Adult Work

If it works on Opera then that means your network has a filter as opera acts as a vpn which is why you cant access UKP with Opera

And you are right Sky, also by default , as with most others have content filter enabled by default

Not correct, you have to enable VPN on Opera or at least make sure it's turned off. I use it for all my punting activities but if it's turned on I can't access here.

Click the red O top left - Settings - Privacy & security - scroll down to Advanced  - VPN is there.
