Was with my sister  over the weekend   sat out in her garden. A magpie landed on one of the fence posts, and she saluted it, saying "Good morning  Mr Magpie".

She said it was bad luck not to salute a magpie.  I've never known her to be superstitious ( I'm certainly  not (touch wood)) but that got me wondering about superstitions in general. Any of you guys have any, that you follow?

If a pavement has slabs, I wont walk on any that are cracked, and thought I was the only one doing this.    But watching other person in town, quickly seen they done the same as me, wouldn't step on a cracked slab

If you came to my city you would have to take very big steps as about 75% are cracked  :D

I presume you were being humorous as touching or knocking wood is a pagan superstition to ward off malevolent spirits.

I used to salute magpies, but living in the country and travelling early to work means I see a lot of them, so gave up doing it. No more bad luck than usual.

I don't walk on cracks or white lines in car parks.

When I've hosted dinner parties and have had 13 guests coming I've made up another place just so we don't risk bad luck.

I do salt over the shoulder if I spill any.

There are many that I do. Basically I'm fucked.

Wonder what the origin of the cracks one is. The others you can imagine being hundreds of yards old

Don't put shoes on a table.
Don't open an umbrella inside the house.

Both taught to me by my late mother who was a nutter. But I still abide by them . :)

Few years back i was working in sales and each time i fucked 1 wg, i would get a sale within the week.

Saw her 3 times and I was in high value sales so having more than 10 sales a year was seen as a biggie.
