Filled up today and for first time I thought "fucking hell!" Was £1.91 for diesel in Costco. Think I paid £1.76 a month ago?

Something different I noticed this time is they've upped the maximum self-service fill from £99 to £125. I suppose they had to, I imagine many cars  couldn't fill from empty to full for £99.

Seems to be price fixing all around this area, even the most expensive Shell garage has Diesel @ 199.9, same as every other including the supermarkets.

Petrol is either 189.9 or 190.9, strangely the normal rip off Shell is cheaper than Tesco, only by the 1p mind.

The only little bonus is the gap between the premium and E10 has shrunk a little, the V6 runs better on it. Getting very pissed off changing fuel hoses on the classics though, petrol is real shit, none of this E bollocks in Ireland.

£1:96 a litre of petrol around my way and that's supermarket petrol station.  I expect it will soon be £2 a litre  :scare:

Now just over £2 a litre for unleaded near me, no lack of others filling up that i have seen, but maybe some are filling up less. I always fill both my cars up fully in case of another fuel crisis where i got caught out. At least i know i have 800 or so miles then.

Anybody see that item on the news not so long ago. Petrol station/shop in Chelsea……. Nearly £2-50 a litre.
Van driver caught out because the prices are only displayed on the pump.
The daft thing was. They were not having all that many customers filling up……. Wonder why ?

Owners of the place did not want to comment apparently

Same around here every garage has the same prices nobody wants to break £2.
I'm sure a year ago we were paying around £1.30,hard to believe.

Diesel is 199.9 at 3 or the 4 stations I pass on the way to work, I double checked yesterday as I passed the rip off Shell station as it's been 5-10p/Ltr more than anywhere else however it was only 198.9p but i'm guessing that will change as soon as they fill the tanks up again

Probably not, seems to be agreement to stay under 2 quid in towns and cities, rural with few garages might not get that. I was surprised at one Shell place being a penny cheaper for petrol, when it has always been the most expensive because of the location.

Do you really think they only increase prices with a new delivery ? If the oil price goes up, it is pretty instant at the pumps.

Well it's the old "Up like a rocket and down like a feather" isn't it, i'm sure that some places put it up when the oil price rises in anticipation that they will need to refill the tanks at a higher price then put it up again when they actually do.

Diesel seems to be stuck around the£1.99 p/l. Even premium (BP, Shell etc) are similar price's.
All this whilst the fuel companies are posting massive profits, and the government tax take has grown. Seems crazy to me  :hi:

There were the protests last week, vehicles driving slowly along motorways /A-roads etc. Does the general public have any real leverage to influence pricing?
I can only only think that haulage companies have reduced price diesel to try to keep food prices lower in the shops? The rest of us will just have to cope :hi:

Looking at the wholesale oil price though it peaked in early March but actually about 15% lower now, so why has the price at the pump continued to edge up by a couple of pence/Ltr every week  :unknown: And this is despite the 5p/Ltr reduction in fuel tax which appears to have been stolen by the oil companies

I know other factors also affect the price at the pump such as refining costs and in the case of Diesel we do import more refined fuel than in the case of petrol but if it was down to that then surely the Diesel price would have shot up far more than petrol  :unknown:

It would appear that the big fuel companies aren't importing diesel from Russia currently (due to sanctions?).
I think we've reduced the refineries in the UK over the last 20+years? Similar to us reducing our gas storage infrastructure over a similar period :hi:

I would imagine there is some delay between wholesale prices and those barrels hitting the retail forecourts - basic economics

So in old money £8.99 per Gallon,we're out of the European gang now so bring back the gallon, they only use litres to dilute the price hikes

Not when it increases so why not when it decreases ? , Few refiners pay the peak price anyway.

Got diesel at Costco Lakeside, seems strange to look at 1.88.9 as a bargain  :D. I assume they are not selling at a loss, so how can they be 11p cheaper than every other outlet ?  :unknown:

Well you do have to pay a joining fee for Costco, £30 minimum I think? Last time I went in for some beef mince and peanut butter I bought a £100 Calvin Klein rug too...... I get the feeling their fuel is part of a bigger plan that seems adept at parting me from my pennies!

Prices for fuel and food etc is now the norm. They won't return to previous levels. There is nothing on the horizon that suggests change any time soon. In fact it will get a lot worse if one believes the Bank of England latest forecast. Time for me to lay down in the box and put the lid on. :( :(

There was something on earlier where it was said taxes from fuel on vehicles accounts for about 4% of the Govt's tax take, quite a substantial amount which will need to be replaced somehow

It might help a little if they went back to E5 rather than E10 for better mpg. Though it may not be an easy process to go back.

That will never happen, all part of the plan to get old cars off the road, and only here it seems, Ireland had no such nonsense. It is a very easy process, just as it happened overnight, it can be reversed just by not adding ethanol, but it will not be.

That is what the powers that be want you to do, the same way they pushed diesel to reduce CO2. EV sales look much higher than they should because of the problems in producing new ICE cars, there are massive supply problems and you have to wonder if the push to EV,s has something to do with it.

Ev,s do suit some users, no doubt, and have done since 1909.

I was speaking to a guy in Ireland who bought a BMW 530e plug in hybrid, it suited his needs, and at the time had done over 8000 km,s on the first tank of fuel.
Bare in mind there is no rush hour in rural Ireland, but he had done his homework on the use he needed and bought the best car to suit them, without ever having range anxiety if he needed to go on a longer journey.

You really need to think about the way you use your car before jumping in.

If you look closely at the price boards outside petrol stations, particularly Shell and BP, you’ll see that the column with the 1 in it is narrower than the other columns and doesn’t have enough room for anything other than a 1.

Driving through some small villages yesterday  I suddenly encountered a traffic jam.  Thought maybe an accident ahead, but as the traffic crawled along, it turned out to be an enormous  queue for a filling station  (Jet) where petrol was 182.9, and diesel was 193.7.

I've seen a slight  drop in prices locally recently - Tesco superstore  has gone  from 197.9 to 195.9.

Strangely, round my way, several supermarkets have stopped displaying their fuel prices. I use Costco, and they're about 10p cheaper than Asda and Sainsbury's with Shell just taking the piss at 5 - 6p more than Sainsbury's! Guess who's forecourt is empty?

My local Tesco has petrol around 2p, or maybe 3p a litre cheaper than everyone else. So fucking what. You stick 50 litres in and have saved £1.50 but you've probably had to drive five miles out of your way (that's well over a quid's worth in my car) and been in a queue for maybe 15 mins.

I suppose if you don't value your own time and you've a car that does 70 to the gallon, it's OK. Otherwise the net saving is nonexistent.

I agree and normally pay little attention, but even I was taken aback by 203 per litre on the motorway! A very rare case where I did not fill up but put enough in to just get me home. That was more about not letting them take the piss rather than my saving.

Be wary of you and yours handing money over to any of this new wave of internet car sellers, Cazoo and the like, word in the trade they are all in trouble, including Cinch, but Cinch have backing so may ride it if the others go. Backers are pulling out of the others apparently.

Prices have dropped around 15p a litre for me over the past couple of weeks.

One strange thing I've noticed though is that everywhere now seems to be charging the same. There was a sort of league table where the Shell was more expensive than the Esso who was more than the Gulf which was more than the Tesco which was more than the Asda. But now everyone is exactly the same.

All the diesel sold at Costco is labelled premium diesel on the pumps, but still  has B7, must look into whether it actually is, with the cleaning agents.  :unknown:
