It reminded me of peacocks. But if you have fashion sense it is the kind of place you could buy some smark looking clothing in. Unfortunately I had no fashion sense so never bought anything there despite having one near me for years.

So here's a question, just between us men.

How much stuff do you actually have in your wardrobe or closet? I'm talking shirts, suits, and shoes especially. Is there such a thing as too much?

They say if you haven't worn something for 12 months, you should chuck it out. I've tried to do that, and have an attempt at a cull every Spring. Not always successful at following that rule, especially with shirts I love, even though they're starting to fray a little.

So at the moment: 12 pairs of shoes. All sorts. Casual and 'official'.
Suits: 7. Some for everyday, a couple for weddings, and one dj for Black Tie events.
Shirts: 32. (yeah, I know. I should chuck out the frayed ones..)

I have several tracksuits, some dating back nearly 30 years, lots of mainly Adidas trainers, heaps of designer t shirts, shirts, trousers, but mainly bought in sales, because I asked 1 or 2 weeks before to a customer assistant if these items would be on sale and yes was the answer..
I found by using persil professional washing powder gave my clothes longevity

I love being stingy and miser..
My only weakness where I open wallet yep is on beautiful escorts but within self control format 👍👍

I've bought shirts from Ralph Lauren outlets and tkmaxx too Ralph Lauren..
Never noticed any quality difference..
Same. There are designs which are considered premium which I've never seen in TK Maxx, stuff like the Hawaiian shirts, Polo Bear jumpers etc. Some of the stuff used to come from John Lewis. Forgot to add Polo is made in China has been for donks since the 90s at least so the quality isn't worth nearly £200 for a sweater when you can buy stuff for less which will last a lifetime.

There are brands which are made for outlets though like Michael Kors.

I also agree with other posts that browsing mens clothing there is largely a waste of time except basics like underwear. 20 years ago they had Marharishi, Margaret Howell, John Smedley, proper Pringle, CP Company etc. None of that anymore mainly cheaper brands like Money and Hype now.

3 shoes, 2 boots, 3 full suits, 3 coats, probably just over 10 tees, 3 polos, 3 proper trousers, 2 jeans, not sure about shirts maybe 5.

I don't smoke and rarely drink so clothing (and punting) were things I could indulge in.

I probably have comfortably over 40 shirts.

At least 10 pairs of trousers

A ridiculous amount of jackets/coats

Awkward size so anything that I like that fits, I buy when I see it. Latest 3 Ben Sherman tops in an Irish TK Maxx.

Rarely wear shoes, mainly boots, from Clarks or Timberland, first choice Clarks, they just fit better. Best pair of shoes ever were exact copy of Armani, handmade in Goa, fitted like the proverbial glove and 45 quid, against the 500 in the Armani catalogue  :D, lasted years too.

T,s and Polos anything I like that fits, shirts made to measure, suits either altered if they can be or made to measure, Hugo Boss normally have something close. Next too for more casual suits.

Levi for jeans, but sometimes get lucky in TK with other makes, best pair ever where Armani, wore those until they were worn beyond decency  :D

Having lived in multiple countries, I can vouch that the quality of trainers and the U.K is far better than most other countries.  I still have an old pair of Nikes that refuses to give in.  I have a habit which is to buy one pair of new shoes every year and replenish chinos/trousers every time is donated/had its time.  It depends on the gear but some quality stuff lasts for ages, that’s why I have no issue paying for certain branded gear.  I wouldn’t buy a t shirt with a Hugo boss logo on it but a quality Barbour jacket lasts years.

In terms of quantity I have around 20 pairs of trainers/casual shoes,  4 pairs of formal shoes, 3 hiking boots.  Shirts I have around 20 good quality regular shirts and at least 30 jackets ranging from casual to formal.   My biggest and most expensive hobby is watches so clothing isn’t a big thing for me.

You can rely on Hugo Boss; they were good eno9ugh for the Gestapo, after all.

I once worked in a shoe shop and a guy came in asking for size 37 shoes.

"Size 37?!?!" I asked incredulously.

"Yes," he said, "they must be red though."

I thought, "Clown."

I've exclusively worn Grenson and O'Keeffe for over 15 years. Not the cheapest of shoes (Grenson are cheaper than O'Keeffe though still around the £300 mark), but they last a lifetime.
Never thrown a pair away, and the only reason why I buy a new pair is if there's a particular style that catches my eye.
I've got 8 pairs of these 2 brands and wear them regularly depending on occasion.
The good thing about both of these brands is they can be resoled if required. Which means your "broken in" (and moulded to your foot) comfy shoes come back looking pristine (both companies rebuild the shoe completely when they strip them to resole) but without the uncomfortable period you get with new leather shoes.

Several times over the years, none as good as those 45 quid handmade in India ones, I still wear them 12 years later.

If you're planning on doing this, here's a tip:

Initially reorganise the wardrobes so that all the hangers are the same way round ( hooked over the rail  from behind say).

If you wear something,  then, when you put it back in the wardrobe, hang it the other way, (hooked over the rail from the front).

After a year,  anything still hooked over from behind hasn't been worn   so can go.

If see something I like I will buy multiples of it. Bought 5 pairs of one style of hiking shoe in 2012 - one pair is as yet unboxed.

Over a dozen paris of hiking shoes, couple of dozen running shoes, dozens of pairs of hiking shirts and trousers and travel clothes, and weatherproof jackets. Lots not worn as yet. All good quality and will probably see me out!

I have some business clothes, which I never wear, and must get around to throwing out. E.g. a dozen or so TM Lewin shirts never unwrapped - must take them to the charity shop ...

I started wearing hiking gear or travel clothes for business meetings years ago - noone has ever implied I should dress more formally. In fact a highly paid MSFT consultant complimented me on the brand of travel shirt I was wearing.

I do the same thing, i am trying to be a minimalist. I kind of have the same dresses, if i like something i just buy 2-3 of them and wear the same clothes everyday. better to buy quality rather than quantity.

That's well worth doing - because it's guaranteed that if you wear something for a while, by the time you've realised it would be worth getting another one or two, they've stopped making it.

I think M&S do a big and tall range for suits. I can't vouch the quality of 2tall.com as I have only ever bought trainers from them. I think I returned some jogging pants.

I was going to. There is a company in Germany that sells Hemp jeans called "Hempage", and their jeans used to come up on the German ebay and Amazon. The reason I didn't is that I read a review which stated the hemp was quite thick and not a linen type material which is breathable in warmer weather.

Many, many, years ago I had a job that involved standing/walking around for the whole working day. I was encouraged to buy a pair of Church's and after a few days of quite painful breaking them in they proved the best investment and most comfortable shoes I'd ever owned.
If memory serves me I wore them 5 days a week for about 5 years, with heel and sole maintenance every once in a while.

So not cheap but super comfortable when wearing for long periods of time. I still own a couple of pairs today for more formal wear.

For me, I tend to buy RL polo shirts when I'm in the US and they are on sale. Normally anything from $25 upwards for what they charge £75+ in the UK.
Jeans, various makes from Levi's to Armani and for a while some very comfortable True Religion.

Trainers are my weakness..... I have around 30 pairs with quite a few classics (fav pair presently, a limited run of Diadora Borg Elite's that i paid far too much for). I buy from stores as well as online, but I'm too old for the basketball boots the kids wear so stick to classic trainers.

Work shirts - Marks and Spencer. Good value, wash well and last for a couple of years normally.

Recently started shopping here: External Link/Members Only both online and in store. For any 80's casuals out there, high recommended.

If you have friends/relatives in the USA, shop online and get them delivered to the USA address, only works for things you know will fit, I do it for jeans.
Have them remove the labels and send them on as personal belongings in plain packaging  :D, not had a problem yet.
