Author Topic: Film/video recording for beginners  (Read 1302 times)

I am looking to film/record short 1-3 mins clips with a lady, but unsure where to begin. I don’t want to hold my phone whilst video recording during intimacy mind will be more focused on the phone than being sexually satisfied.

I don’t want to spend a lot of money on equipment which I am barely going to use. I think it will be more convenient to use my iPhone than buy a camera.

Would a tripod with remote control settings be enough with an iPhone? Does anyone have iPhone remote control device which can start, pause, stop recording videos? Zoom in, zoom out?

Do tripods also come with remote control device where you can rotate the tripod right or left and up and down to get a better angle?

Any helpful recommendations for a beginner? Thanks

A Tripod is a very good start!

Nowt worse that images on a handheld device waving around!.

Pan and tilt head very usefull as is a decent camera, a lot can do video these days!...

Yh front face iPhone cameras have lower megapixel but you can see what you are recording.

Seems like most cameras don’t have a front screen so you can’t see what you are recording.

Can if it has a flip screen.

A decent IPhone with a tripod will be bang on, especially if you are new to filming. In good light it should perform as well as a medium grade mirrorless camera (in bad light - not quite so well)

The other good thing about an IPhone will be that phones generally have very wide lenses (significantly so than most camera kit lenses) which will really let you get a good view of the action.

I got something like this ages ago, which has a little remote you pair with your phone. Works with an iphone..

You can’t zoom in & out with it but it wasn’t really a problem for me

Tripods seem quite stationary, looking for something more adjustable long overhead stand where you can move the phone at different angles.

I haven't got an apple watch but from what I understand you can connect it to your iPhone and record videos/take pics on your apple watch. So you can use the back of an iphone camera with higher megapixels to record better content whilst in bed watching your recordings on your apple watch.

yep I’ve got an apple watch, and you can also control the camera including zooming in and out with it

It’s a bit of a faff trying to watch the screen while you’re otherwise occupied though. I found it better place the camera in a position where you got more of an overview of the action

There are plenty of non-Apple phones with great cameras, why an iPhone in particular?

Yh I guess the screen is too small. I have seen some 4k action cameras that have a small front screen. My eyesight isn't the greatest would need to constantly get up and check.

Did some other research into an app called filmIc pro - you can connect your iphone with an old iphone or a tablet and use it as a screen/remote control to record videos from your iphone. Maybe hooking up an old tablet and placing it near the bedside will stop the need to get out of bed and constantly check

Tripod with a built in light ring is the easiest and best ive found.  I just set it up, check the view and let it record until i want a new position.  I pretty much forget about it.  I tried messing about with remotes and various lighting equipment but this honestly was ideal for me.  It was cheap too.  Break a few with all the action and its no big deal.

It might be worth looking at model releases!
