As yesterday was "Record Store Day" and from having a long chat with the enthusiastic young assistants in my regular local record shop, they asked me if I could remember the first vinyl LP/Album I ever bought? It was Electric Warrior by T.Rex which I bought from Virgin Records in Oxford Street (when it was a small shop above a shoe shop) for £2.29 in 1972. Does anyone else (probably of a certain age?) also remember their first?

It was a Who album, possibly The Who Sell Out?

But the cover design was;

Crime of the century by Supertramp. First live band I saw in concert too. Used to have quite a vinyl  collection at one time then got rid of them all when vinyl was replaced by CD's and tapes. With vinyl making a comeback I wish I kept hold of them  :dash: Still love Supertramp's music today. I think vinyl LP's sell for about £25 now days

Cannot remember the Album name, but it was around 64 or 65 and bought for me, By The Monkees.

Still like bashing out their tunes.
Banned reason: Undesirable, previously banned, still attacking members, discussing UKP with SP, toxic personality, it’s a no from me!,

Beatles For Sale. 1964. £1 12s 6d. A small fortune for an 10 year old. Wasn't until circa 1970 that I started buying in greater quantities.

Only one of the original band members left now  considering they were a manufactured band for TV they had some great songs  ( some written by Neil Diamond)

I would imagine the Beattles will figure quite a lot on this thread for people of a certain age. I must admit I didn't really appreciate their music until I was older.

Deep purple in rock 1970 , they were also the first band I saw

First album I bought with my pocket money was Hell Bent For Leather by Frankie Laine. Cowboy songs just ideal for an 8 year old schoolboy. Lost my copy many years ago, but recently found it on CD in a bargain bin for £3. On playing it I was instantly that schoolboy again. Amazing what memories music can stir.

Never knew that, but a big Diamond fan, few years back at the O2, I thought he would be shite at his age, the place was rocking, sounded like a record, maybe it was  :D

Yes he wrote "I'm a believer" and " A little bit me a little bit you" are probably the well known songs we wrote.  Sweet Caroline seems to have turned into a football anthem now.

I cant remember what album I bought first, but I bought this one a few years after it came out. I was told that Jack Bruce grew up in a block of flats which overlooked the secondary school that I attended. Its very likely true, because its confirmed in articles that he attended another school nearby.

My first albums were mostly by the Stones, bought in 1969. It may have been big hits, High Tide and Green Grass, or Satanic Majesties Request, or Beggars Banquet. I cant remember which was first.

Must've been something wrong with 10yr old me..... I bought a K-Tel hits compilation from local Woolies for 99p I think it was. Clearly I ought to have bought Vintage Violence by John Cale but presumably it was out of stock.

Reminds me of the old Embassy records exclusively sold by Woolworths in the 50s and early 60s. Cheap cover versions of hit records with double A sides.

Not sure, it was either Uriah Heep "Demons and Wizards" or Wishbone Ash "Argus".

I'd only heard classical music and the Beatles, so when other kids brought albums by Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin into school, to begin with many of the tracks just sounded like noise to me. Although Led Zep Since I've been Loving You and Black Dog made quite an impression.

Heep and Wishbone were more melodic, at least that's how I remember it.
