Author Topic: Summer holiday recommendations for solo trip.  (Read 2441 times)

Hi all, can anyone on here recommend a good place in England to take a nice summer holiday for 7 days.

I am going up North with the family later in the year so preferably somewhere south of England.
 :hi:

Because I will be traveling solo, a place with plenty of shops and plenty of things to do to keep me occupied would be a must. A city that comes to mind is Brighton but I am not sure what Brighton is like since the last time I have been to Brighton was when I was a kid.

I maybe would squeeze in a visit to see a wg if the area I visit as options available.

Thanks for all those that can help.  :hi:

I suppose London is the obvious call.

Yes it has all the tourist trappings, but there is so many things to find just off the beaten trail that you would not get bored. Staying in the outskirts and travelling in on public transport a must.

For all the shit London sometimes gets on here.

In terms of things to do, convenience, transport links and restaurants to visit.  It's unmatched in my opinion compared to anywhere else in the UK.  Plus the birds are FAF

7 days is quite a chunk - are you wanting to travel or stay in location for the duration?

I did The Cotswolds and Bristol a few years back. Being a hardened Northener really enjoyed it too. Cardiff is only 30 minutes from Bristol too. Maybe something different to the big smoke

Depends on whether you value solitude or not. Suffolk coast is pretty good for windswept beaches. Same up the coast in Norfolk.

But for a solo traveller, and if you want some variety, it has to be London. And I'd concentrate on the bits east of the West End. Soho, Knightsbridge etc have all had their day.

Holborn, Farringdon, Smithfield, Clerkenwell, Shoreditch, The City and those environs are great for walking around and exploring. As much history, culture, and architecture as you'd want to take in. Tate Modern is still amazing, and free to get in. The whole area is walkable, and dead quiet at the weekends.

Not much in the way of parks, but so fucking what. You can walk along the riverside, get a boat to Canary Wharf or Greenwich (another great spot.)

If you can splash out a bit, there are now some excellent hotels in the EC2 area. There didn't used to be any. And as far as bars, cafes and restaurants go, it's easily now the best neighbourhood in London for choice.

After reading the advise, you've even got me thinking about a short time away in London in the very near future.  :drinks:

As I live in London I want to travel out of it for a holiday. Of course otherwise London I know  would be amazing. London for others to travel inwards to explore the capital city I would recommend but as for me (as I do explore my home city) London would not be an option for an holiday.

I could not agree with you more.  As I live In London I know this. I also punt in London so I know it is way out in front of the best place to punt than any other place in the uk.

But I want to explore another area of the uk for a holiday.  It is good to see other areas of the uk rather than stay in one place. Even though London is pretty good and has everything. Good to change scenery once in a while.   :hi:

Stay in one place to make the most of that particular area. I went bath earlier in the year which is near Bristol.  I had a really great time there to be fair.  :hi:

I will look at the Suffolk coast region.  Thanks.

I live in London so I would like to leave London for a holiday.

Thats a good question , I want to explore the local sites, heritage,  independent shops, preferably has a beach nearby and I enjoy walking so just explore the local surroundings and see what other things to do whereever I go.

I like the sound of going to either Brighton or Great Yarmouth. They both southern locations.  Brighton more southern.  They both are beach locations and I think Brighton will be winning it slightly at this stage as I think Brighton have a bigger selection of escorts.   :hi:

Have you thought about Bristol?  Only a couple of hours by train from Paddington, has many attractions and I'm sure some nice WG's too!

You cannot go wrong with either Brighton or Bristol. Both different in their own ways of course. Personally I prefer Brighton as I lived there many years back and still have a property there. It's a great place.

Have a much better idea
Barcelona
Holidaying in the UK is expensive
Same too for our fave sport
Barcelona's beach is ace, the weather will be superb
& wall to wall hookers & massage burds
Cheaper than here & easier to get to than spread across London for example
Some cultural stuff in Barcelona too & a really good vibe in the bars
Plus some milf hunting opportunites
Knowing that if you get nowhere then on your doorstep is plans A-Z

I think the OP said in England  :unknown:

The south of
The weather here can be iffy
Places like Bournemouth Brighton London good for a few days but after that ?
And hotels here can be staggeringly expensive in the summer
Just sayin
Barcelona wins hands down when it comes to our fave sport

I think the OP said in England  :unknown:

26th May 1999 Nou Camp we won the treble. Was also there when we drew 3-3 with Barcelona. Great memories.

Im gonna go rogue here and suggest Portsmouth and Isle of Wight.  Easy and cheap links between the two so its almost like an extension city.  Plus there is a hovercraft.  That alone is worth the trip.
Brighton is good for a day tops and crazy money.  God forbid you take your car and try to park someplace.  Bristol is only slightly better.  Portsmouth is good for a couple days as is Wight then you can go to Southampton to kill more days if you wanted too.

Thanks for your suggestion. I have gone with Brighton.  Booked for 5 nights. Maybe a stretch too long a stay but I will make it work and discover Brighton for myself.  :hi:

Thanks for all other members who made suggestions.  Bristol came a close 2nd option.   :hi:

If you've booked the 1st weekend in August being groped by the homeless will be the least of your worries  ;)

If any TS / post TS inklings, you've picked the place
& anyways if you are on holiday does this count ?

A trip to Chichester is highly recommended - nice little city with several non-punting places of interest and one very special SP

Yep it’s gotta be Brighton. If the weathers good it will be busy so lots to do, see and shag.
Sorry…….. didn’t mean to say shag.
This is obviously a cultural visit innit. Good food, long walks, architecture etc  :D

I live in London so there's no point in booking a hotel in london to start my holiday in a city I live.

Thanks anyway.   :hi:

I only just returned to this thread, my apologies. I didn’t realise you lived in London, so my advice was poor.

What about that Scotland 500 miles coastal thingy, it’s supposed to be fascinating, I am planning to go later this year. Looks like a great place to really take a step back and look inward. You really couldn’t get more opposite to London. Doubt you’d get a wg, unless you find a mermaid  :D

after 516 miles it would have to be cowgirl  :(

Offline webpunter

One of my mates did it just b4 lockdown, in a decent motor
Said it was epic
More of a boys trip, unless you have a very understanding OH
Plus if an OH you'll get the constant nagging to slow down

As for our fave sport, consider it a challenge
The co drivers job is finding em, get an iPad & when you have coverage do some research
Though you're more likely to find one than two
So it might be a case of playing spoof to see who goes 1st  :D

Since Clarkson put the NC500 on the map with the Grand Tour the rozzers have become more savvy
Bout people [mostly from south of the icewall] blasting motors north of it
So be careful
External Link/Members Only

At least the the Scoots rozzers ain't as anal when it comes to speeding as the druids
The druids use it as a way to generate income from fines given that Wales is [in general] economically deprived
Not surprising really, "failed in Wales"
And "come home to a real fire" encouraged wealthy people from the right side of the Severn Bridge to buy 2nd homes elsewhere
 ;)

Its on the to-do list at some point

Edit:  try doing it in a lekky car & see how far you get
