Probably not a surprise, but Time Out London is no longer going to be published.

Probably not a surprise, but Time Out London is no longer going to be published.

There was a time in the 70s and 80s when I read it every week. Didn't mind paying for it at all.

Politically, it always leaned leftwards, but then again, so did I in those days.

But its coverage of cinema, arts, gigs and so on was second to none.

Another casualty of the internet, I guess.

During that pre internet time there was another publication "Whats On In London" which used to have back pages devoted to massage and escorts. It was obviously aimed at the tourist market. Back then the local newspapers where my main info source but Whats On did give a few useful leads.

I remember the rival publication at the time, it was called City Limits. CL was much better for arts coverage, especially the film section, hence the reason I bought it. Does London have any listings magazines these days?

The Timeout website is still there

Other magazines exist, but by the time you get a copy the events have happened. For music you need to be on instagram or discord and actively looking.
For arts and events "ianvisits.co.uk" is excellent.

Not really a casualty of the internet,as that has been around for some time now,not even a casualty of instagram (for the same reason). For many years it was given away free at London stations (like Metro and Evening Standard) but with COVID and wfh there are less people to give it away to,so its a casualty of the pandemic.

I do agree to an extent not to mention most clubs, theatre, cinema, art galleries being shut for the best part of 18 months. I think it was on the cards for a while with loads of other listings like Skiddle for free on the internet. Only a matter of time before newspapers and magazines bar maybe crosswords disappear altogether.

I've been to many restaurants, galleries & films based on thier reviews. I just prefer to pick up a paper or magazine. Call me old fashion but I will miss it immensely.

These magazines by some now are considered offensive..
To them they reduce women to sex objects only..
How society has decayed...
Very sad..

Far as myself and many other hot blooded males were concerned it was jolly smiles back in the old skool days!!😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🙌🙌🙌🙌

Sad. Back in the late eighties I booked a session of spanking and sex in Earls Court through an advert in this mag.

Judging from your spelling I assumed you avoided a lot of "skool"............now I've got visions of you in the back row reading "Nuts"
