To be honest I be one of those people.  How many pounds shops I have seen that say they are a pounds shop and yet their products are over a pound.
There is a local independent poundshop one minute walk from my house that sells products over a pound.

Its actually a smart business move that businesses sometimes use for free advertisement & if it works well in the area they will deploy the same tactic on other products but will do it very rarely to sell a certian product. It'll make yoi feel smug & think they are smart and actually buy the product to then take it to the counter & say can i buy each bottle separately. You will then discuss this with other people or maybe i dont know write it in a discussion forum lol & next time they are near the shop they will go in and do the same thing you did & might evan buy other products. So yeah basically free advertisement for them :).

Absolutely convinced this is done deliberately to make the customer think they have had a victory.

Tesco Beer Morretti crate 12x330
£13 in one Tesco locally, £12 with clubcard discount.
£13 in a second Tesco around 5 miles away, £10 with clubcard discount.

I bought 3 crates because I thought it was a mistake. I wouldn’t usually buy that much beer.
