Indeed James Garner is dead - what a fine man.  From what I read, he was basically just like Jim Rockford - laid back, laconic, modest, principled (he blew a huge stash of money successfully fighting the studio that underpaid him, and never regretted it).  Effectively an orphan -  a great role model with a good innings, and an unblemished reputation over 60 years!  Hmmm... seems like I've got a looooong way to go to measure up to the big man.
