No sooner has the spectacle of vanity, sanctimony, and conspicuous wealth and privilege of the Oscars been and gone, but now the TV BAFTAs will shortly be upon us. It's just as bad. Celebrating all the things that mean almost nothing to most people, and television that in some cases isn't watched by anyone at all, it's plonked down on primetime BBC1 as if the Great and the Good of Luvvieland have decided to share their lives with us for one short (but not as short as we'd like) evening. We are supposed to look on in awe and wonder at how much better our betters really are.

Except it's all horseshit. BAFTA isn't an Academy. It's a bar and a cinema in Piccadilly. it self-selects nominations from amongst its friends and if you're not in that particular gang, you've no chance. Much as Basildon Man and Worcester Woman have been identified in the past as typical voters, there's such a thing as BAFTA Woman. Aged 44, lives in SW7, single, Remainer (of course), has a cat and sticks a Ukrainian flag in her social media profiles. Expensively educated but knows fuck-all about fuck-all, other than if a tv programme is weird, badly acted or directed, has some sexually unorthodox activity and has been made by her mates, or some people who live in Tower Hamlets, she'll vote for it.

Needless to say, I won't be watching. I think Terminator II will have another airing on my TV screen that evening.

It will only be worth watching if the awards presenter gets a smack in the chops from someone :D

Please let it be James Corden by any celebrity female/ male or otherwise! How he's made a killing and become big in the States I'll never know!

Link?? Sounds like she needs a good pounding

T2 is a great film - wooden acting and cheesy lines included. In my top 10 for sure!

Needless to say, you start a pointless thread in a desperately sad bid to stay relevant on a punting forum where by your own admission, you no longer punt.

Why do I need to 'stay relevant' here? This isn't school and nor is it a contest. It's just a place where people come and blather about anything and everything.

If you don't like a thread, stay off it. Most threads here I have zero interest in, and I don't barge in and start insulting people just because I think their comments are 'pointless'.

'Needless to say' indeed. Didn't stop you from saying it though.

I haven't insulted you.
It's a punting forum.
You have contributed nothing to that end about punting for some years now.

So what?

This is 'off topic'. If you don't want people posting who are non-punters and who aren't posting about tarts, then see about scrapping 'off topic'.

I know of at least two other forums where "off topic" was ultimately  removed due to the volume of posters  only using the off topic section, and not contributing  to the main forum ( which, after all, is why the boards were created).

Besides the "non-contributing" factor, there was also the bandwidth issue  to consider.

I don’t agree with most of what you post but many of your threads end up interesting for me and I even occasionally take part. In any case not up to members to censor you, if owner and mods happy it is nobody else’s business.

Interesting to speculate on the mentality of people who feel it necessary to launch attacks on someone just because they post their views.

I suspect it is all water off a ducks back for you.

Thats so True -  its annoying on some many threads that individual members try to be Mods. We have a good Mod team. Leave it to them

Not trying to be a mod.

I'm merely posting my view as well which is just as warranted.

I would disagree - cannot see any benefit to someone just coming on the forum to make a negative comment and have a pop.  Sometimes if you have nothing positive to say you should stay quiet.
