The chances of Burnham calling a snap election in the next six months or so are as close to zero as makes no statistical difference.

In the unlikely event of Labour establishing an overwhelming lead in the opinion polls next year or the year after, he might call one then.

Otherwise he'll hang on like grim death until 2029.

Andy Burnham has a massive majority in the House of Commons for almost three more years.

If he called an election now, Labour would probably still be the largest party, but would almost certainly not have an overall majority.

OK, the lack of a mandate acts as a restraint on certain policy choices – although a cynic might argue that this allows Burnham to waffle on about them without having to put them into practice – but that "restraint" is preferable to being subject to Ed Davey’s whims (and possibly those of Dave Doogan and Zack Polanski too).

I know there is no point trying to give you facts unless they agree with your views, but for others:

The meme is partly true but materially misleading.  It is true that net international migration accounted for most of UK population growth to mid 2025, although the 171k is from a different period.  However the ONS does not have a 3rd world category - they are referring to non EU countries, which includes for example US and Canada - although Trump may soon have turned USA into a 3rd world country.

Also worth (again) saying that the direction of travel is down, by about 82% from 2023 when the number was 944k.

This alleged Iranian terrorist wouldn't have been bailed if they had solid proof would he, whereas in the case of Danny Fuckwit Tommo they have on the basis that he filmed and lived streamed himself endangering someone life by slashing a boat that a French emergency worker was on

Iran doesn't need to smuggle people in on small boats with other refugees. It could easily get an agent in disguised as legal immigrant or on a small boat or plane on a less obvious route.

They could work in the Embassy and do it from there.  Wouldn't be the 1st time the Iranian, Israelis and others have done it her and in other countries. . Safest route than losing them on a boat across the Channel, they don't need small boats.

TBF the security around RAF Fairford is pretty weak and there appear to be roads close by the fence, so it wouldn't take much to have someone fire an RPG or SAM at one of the bombers. The US doesn't have that many B1 Lancers as they were built in the 1980s and there's no wctive production line for them so can't afford to lose them. I think the US is also ramping down on their use in I-ran anyway.
