About 40% of Universal Credit claimants are either in work, but on low pay and receive 'top up'' payments or disabled/long term sick.
I'm not sure how Badenoch is going to restrict what people can buy. The only way I can see would be to give everyone a State Controlled Bank Account with a payment card that shop tills can't accept for booze and cigs - that would cost Millions to set up and run, probably more than any saving in benefit costs.
Yep that sounds like the Cons alright but they'd still maintain that they'd saved money, oh and no doubt senior party members family & friends would somehow by chance be involved in the contract to design / run the system that implemented it  :diablo:

PPE contract anyone  :unknown:

Not rising as quickly is not the same as down  :hi:

The number so far this year is down on last year, quite a simple concept.

In any case I was was responding to an idiotic post that some 83k of illegal migration is down to Labour when the vast majority of that happened under a Tory government.  Another simple concept but beyond his comprehension.

Apparently Kemi Badenoch's big idea to slash the welfare bill is to stop claimants from being able to spend their benefits on alcohol or tobacco.

What the fuck is wrong with these people? This is the Conservative Party - the Conservative Party - advocating that the state dictates what people can spend their money on. The fucking State!

They're not all spongers. I'd estimate that around two thirds of benefit claimants are actually genuine. And if a single mother trying to raise three young children on her own feels the need for an occasional bottle of wine or twenty Benson & Hedges to see her through the week, who could blame her?

Very pleased to say I like that post.  :hi:

The number is still high. Labour are not getting figures down. Infact 4 boats showing on trackers waiting in the sea.

You dont need figures to know migration is high. Take a walk down your local town. Using your eyes, you can see the results and figures are not down.

Kemi Badenoch spending time with Rupert Murdoch of all people.

These people do not care about anyone but themselves

It because Murdoch has realised, finally, that Farage and his type are no longer in ascendancy.
Soon you'll see, just like the Daily Heil turning their back on Twat Tommo, the Sun and others will start reporting on the dodgy side of Farage at last.
So, in that case where does Murdoch go? He tried Blair and that eventually backfired so he goes back to the Tories of course, the real opposition, not Reform as Farage would have his petty little band of Russian stooges and hard of thinking believe.

Andy Burnham is saying all the right things, I hope for the sake of Britain he does a good job.
He is a smooth talker and he offers a different politics than what we been used to over the last few years.

I was quite impressed with his interview on Laura Kuenssberg in Liverpool, particularly his obvious commitment to trying to resolve the crisis in social care. If he can pull that off it will be a great achievement.
The position of Labour Prime Ministers is always a bit of a poisoned chalice with having to deal with the constant barrage from the right wing press on one side, and pressure from union barons and the hard left on the other.
On a personal level, I quite like the bloke and I wish him well.

To recap you said the problem of 83k illegals in UK is down to Labour but they have only been in power 5 minutes and most of those arrived before that.  In that 5 minutes they have substantially reduced the numbers arriving and that number is on a downward trend - surely a good thing??  Yet you cannot agree with that and blame the whole situation on them.  Really does sound like you have another agenda and are simply using migration as leverage.  Which means that you probably want to see it get higher to help that agenda.

If you were capable of listening you would know that I like most people agree illegal migration is too high, we do not need your lies and exaggeration.

You just don't seem to get it though do you, the vast majority of people would agree that immigration is too high in fact far too high both legal and illegal / asylum seekers however under labour the figures are down compared to the Tories

What you and a lot of others also can't or won't grasp is the root cause of all this and that Brexit made the problem far worse, Bojo "Get Brexit done" wasn't anti immigration, in fact he liked it as it provided more cheap labour but the main problem was that he also extended the right for family members of workers to also come here, get 1 NHS worker that you want / need and another 20 extended family members that you don't

When we were in the EU we also had a mechanism for sending illegals back under the Dublin agreement but once we left we couldn't use the agreement any more.
Ultimately all of this is down to Farage though who ironically is now seemingly even more vocal about the whole thing  :dash:

There was a guy being interviewed yesterday morning on the TV about a film he's just made and he commented on something that I said would happen before the referendum vote in that immigration wouldn't stop if EU workers no longer had an automatic right to come here and work but it would just shift where they came from.
And for many of those who were anti immigration they didn't / don't like even more the fact that there are now more "Brown" people coming here that European people, some of us worked all this out BEFORE we voted

The whole think is worth a watch as he talks about his film which is about the peasants revolt from 1381 and the groundswell of feeling and "Rage" that also appears to be true in society today, the specific bit I referred to above is around 17.50

UK has a diesel shortage. If only they drill the North Sea. Its not about cost as that's global markets. But about relying on imports. USA will soon limit exports. But if the uk drilled north sea, Guess what they could have it.

I suggest that the boats carrying migrants won't have trackers fitted, so the ones you can see will be legitimate vessels.
Immigration is high because the people involved will be trying to get the jobs that the native population won't (or can't) do.
All Brexit did was accelerate the swap a load of Caucasian workers for a load of non Caucasian ones.

We have a diesel shortage mostly due to the loss of refining capacity in the UK, accelerated by net Zero policies, including the CBAM loophole. The closure of Grangemouth, Lindsay, Milford Haven and Coryton refineries are particularly notable.

Well there should be anger. They tried to blow an army base up and get bail. No Tag is stopping them going out and blowing something else up and putting lives at risk.

What if the terrorist were caught and still  put on bail before 7 july, then still went ahead with their plan. There would be Anger. These lot will do the same, They know they are banged to rights. So will do what they want.  Terrorist/murders are high risk and are usually remanded in custody.

Would you be happy if a rapist/terrorist/murder was released into your community awaiting trial. Free to walk the same streets you are on daily. Free to carry out their crimes. I guess not.

I have no information on this, probably the same as all the people using outrage to promote themselves.  I would suggest we all take a beat and be calm until we know more.  If the Counter Terrorist police have supported that decision it would suggest there is more going on (or indeed less) than we know.

People are too quick to judge and shout at the moment.  Wait for the facts before donning a tin hat and digging in.

Just a friendly suggestion - will help your stress levels and blood pressure.  :hi:

Completely irrelevant and pointless comment and totally ignoring the spirit of mine - no surprise there.  However I think those arrests whilst made under Anti Terrorist legislation were made by normal met police.  But I am not getting into the rights or wrongs of that, various Trolls will jump all over it.  As I said my simple point that I would have thought even you could understand is that often it helps us all to take a moment and wait for some actual facts to appear before we take sides.

I have no idea whether it was a wise decision to grant bail or a nuts one.

True, but the UK produced less than half of its needs. The rest was imported and prior to its invasion of Ukraine, Russia was the major source of those imports. Of course that too has been lost due to embargo..

First part is true, second part obviously not.

Just ask how decisions made by government(s) could have impacted the commercial decision making.

Sure, but twenty years ago the UK only imported 14% of our diesel needs. That deindustrialisation has been a choice, by Labour, Conservative and Labour again.

We are vulnerable to events elsewhere in the world because of the policy decisions of successive UK governments.
