I am not surprised by this, have a few tales of his last spell living in Essex. The Celtic contingent may have some stories too.

He is nothing like the Ferrari owning multi millionaire these stories always allude to. You are just as likely to bump into him in a country pub as any other.

Anyone had to do similar things to get things done in your area?

There was an item on this morning telly about it.

I was going to post something about the state of our roads...but this will do.
Just came back from a holiday in the Canaries. Took lots of taxis etc.
Why is it the roads somewhere like that are far far better than here.

Why is it we pay tax in this country. Where does it all go.
The problem is not just getting pot holes fixed either. Its when they are repaired too.
Workmen filled in various pot holes in our area a couple of months ago. I watched it and felt like I was seeing a carry on film.  Those blokes could have been Eric Sykes and Sid James for all the use they were.
What happened to people who took pride in their work.
Anyway....the same holes are still there, just crumbling to bits again.

(Loved the pictures where local residents have planted flowers in the holes in their roads....they are growing too)  :D

I recently watched a council contractor "repairing" a pothole.

He stood on the edge of the road waiting for a gap in the traffic.  Every time there was a gap he ran into the middle of the road and started to empty some soft tarmac from a builders merchants plastic bag into a hole.  He then ran off and waited for another gap in the traffic and repeated and repeated.

Real Carry On material - I wish I had filmed it.

Seen this too, fair play to someone of his stature for getting his hands dirty and getting stuck in. a few years back he was doing a gig in Aberdeen and was in one of the local pubs shortly after for a few pints and a bit of a blether with some locals.   :hi:

Makes a mockery of the council response , " It is dangerous and should only be carried out with traffic management in place" or words to that effect, no apology, no promise to look into it, just a warning.

Councils have long forgotten they are elected to serve the public, not milk as much money as possible from them while wasting it on internal politics and staff who are paid to work as few hours as possible.

My mate was moaning this evening, he did not get the keys to his dustcart until 7.30,Supervisors overtime has been cut so they will not come in until the working hours kick in,  and did not get home until nearly 1pm, after sabotaging 2 trucks so he did sweet fa in revenge for the late start, the round did not get done, now he will get overtime on Saturday as they are a day behind, and that story is all true, this is what we elect and pay them for.

This goes on at your council too,

His son Liam Stewart is a professional ice hockey player. A couple of seasons ago he played for Coventry Blaze ice hockey team and Rod turned up one evening to watch him play.

Went for a week’s break to The Gower Peninsula in Wales last Autumn and the roads going from the Welsh Borders and all week were excellent, hardly any potholes. Here in Herefordshire is fucking dire the state of the roads.

This goes on at your council too,

The council have said they would endevour to rectify the problem and are happy to meet Rod Stewart to discuss the issue.

Your mate wasn't elected and I don't see how it's the elected councillors fault your mate seems to be involved in criminal damage and fraud.

That was not what they said this morning when the story broke, they had all day to come up with that.

You have no idea, the lunatics run the Asylum in that council, from top to bottom it is rotten, and the workers know there is no control, every level cannot communicate with the one above or below, they are now looking at and trialing mediators, adding more levels.

All the while the latest elected are wasting millions on a witch hunt, on the previous lot, trying to prove corruption, while it is going on all around them.

Staff do not give 2 fucks, across the board of outside workers, there is no supervision, supervisors do not care what they do, because they got overtime cut which they rarely worked anyway, and the union wants to take them out on strike for more money.

It is the job of those elected to run the Asylum, they simply are not doing it.

I'm not sure how you expected the council to respond before the story broke.

I recall hearing him saying he always picks up Penny after her shift as a City of London Special Constable at Liverpool Street because it's a "dodgy area".

Let's face it, if you were an attested copper with self defence training you'd be grateful of a 77 year old bloke coming to your aid.

He seems like a genuine good guy. He gave a student nurse a few thousand quid so she could finish nursing college as covid had taken its toll on her finances in her current job and she couldn’t afford it. If i remember right she’d posted on FB about struggling and Rod had picked up on it and helped.

It's not the job of elected councillors to manage council employees.
The problem is that most of the time, they're not Council Employees, they work for an outside Contractor, who no doubt also gets a cut of any overtime payments.
If a collection is missed, for whatever reason, it takes at least 2 days to sort out another because the Council's system does not "talk" to the Contractors system, so someone at the Council has to email them to tell them to get their arses into gear and go back, the Contractors won't use their initiative and do it themselves, because they won't get paid for doing something without being told to do it! Sometimes, it takes longer,  because the Council has outsourced the complaints system, so an email has to be sent to the Council, who have to email the Contractors - if you wrote this down and went to the BBC with "a brilliant new comedy" they'd reject it as "unrealistic" !

He paid to replace a model railway for a club where toe rags had broken in and trashed it. Apparently he is a keen railway man himself and has a layout at home. From memory it was tens of thousands.

A friend of mine was a neighbor of his, still is though my friend has downsized, they became friends when he got a knock on the door early one morning not too long after moving in.

It was Rod, he said, " My roller will not start, can I borrow yours ? "  Been friends ever since.

Years ago in the early days of Iron Maiden and they were still a pub band, a group of us from my local, where one drank, somehow got round to challenging them to a football match. Rod supplied the venue, his garden.

There is another story about that day  :D, one of the lads was not too happy, his GF was missing a while  :D

She is a really tasty woman.

Yeah. I wouldn’t mind being cuffed to her. Notice the picture difference of her in the article, how glammed up she is for the tv publicity shot and the comparison to her photographed on foot. You wouldn’t know it was her in the natural shot.

Back in 1997 when travelling around the US I came across a British pub in Santa Barbara I'm pretty sure was called the Press Room and it turns out it was Rods local and I was invited to a Sunday kick about on the beach and Rod joined in, helped bbq the food and was just a very down to earth nice guy.
