Yeah top 10 of all time but looking online you start getting into all kinds of charts for US only and worldwide plus confusion about claimed sales Vs confirmed sales etc but deffo a big seller after a very slow start.

I did find with a lot of meatloaf songs that i either really love them or skip on past them, love the way Bat out of hell and paradise by the dashboard light tell a story

Sad, he was a sort of cross between early Springsteen (BTR vintage), Phil Spector and Motown exaggerated x1000.

My mrs had been playing BOOH all morning.  RIP.

There a program which i've watched a couple of times and seems to be aired quite often, can't remember the channel but it's called something like Meatloaf in and out of hell and tells his life story.

No doubt it will pop up again very soon but well worth a watch, as I recall his dad was a violent alcoholic who threw him through a plate glass window then after his mum died he left home and went off on his own

Offline mr.bluesky

Recent pictures of him showed he had lost a lot of weight. Just hope it wasn't cancer that got him . His music really took off when he teamed up with Jim Steinman . I would love to have seen him in concert. I bet he put on a great show.

I was lucky enough to see him in concert about 30 years ago.

Still have to crank up the volume when Bat out of Hell comes on the radio.

I remember him most fondly from Fight Club... Great film and a surprising role for him.

Fantastic in Fight Club, best performance/character in the film. . .although obviously not one of his best achievements!

Apparently he died of COVID. There's no news of what his vaccination status was, but it's reported he was against mandatory vaccination or being controlled.

Yeah just looking online and while people are saying they don't know his vaccination status he does appear to have had quite a few views which could be classed as Anti vaccination along with an objection to wearing masks and continuing to hug people etc

Given his age; weight; level of fitness / health / wellbeing and the fact he had other medical conditions including Asthma which is known to make you susceptible to being ill with covid then he was rolling the dice really.
Ultimately if this was the case then I guess he knew the risks but it's a real shame for someone to be taken early due to this.

What I am surprised about is how big a story it is on the news even today on the news they are broadcasting it, I always liked meatloaf but despite having a huge selling album I thought most people weren't really interested in him or his stuff as it was perhaps a bit more "Fringe" rather than the mainstream crap that gets fed to us historically via Top of the pops and radio 1 etc

Seen on another forum he was anti vax and anti mask wearing.

If someone asked him to wear a mask they were a Nazi apparently.

As a mark of respect, my wife is wearing her Meatloaf knickers.

On the front it says "I would do anything for love."

On the back it says "But I won't do that."

I saw him twice in Manchester, at the Apollo and at the  then G-Mex.
Two great gigs, he had  both places bouncing.
 RIP Meaty.

Meatloaf seems to have had a very unhappy childhood, like many artists. He was only successful with Steinman. He started as an actor, not a singer I believe.

I have Covid. Very boring, like a bad cough and cold.
