High-end agencies wanting 30% deposits

I’ve made a few enquiries in the last week regarding booking escorts with a number of the higher-end premium London agencies.

Nearly all of them have asked for a deposit - normally about 30%.

This seems to be a recent trend - clearly I’ve not gone through with it as there’s no way I’m paying £200 or more to a faceless entity I’ve never met, without having seen the goods, so to speak.

Any informed comment would be appreciated.

It’s become relatively common in the US, and with prices going up I can understand the opportunity cost of aborted punts being a concern for the agency. Would you mind naming the agencies that have demanded a deposit?

Not much of a consolation, but you may well find that once you've established your bona fides with a particular agency, this requirement ceases.

I realise that lots of people hate the idea of deposits, but a lot of people also complain that agencies are useless and parasitical.  This is an example of the agency attempting to be worth their money - insuring against timewasters and no-shows, providing some measure of security checking for the SP etc.

I'll never pay a deposit, this is punting, risks are there on both sides, big rewards for them, big costs for us, imagine trying to get £250 back when you show up at a £750 hooker's place and she's not as advertised!

Isn’t 30% the usual agency cut? So they are not really helping the SP, but getting their share of the booking, regardless whether or not the booking goes through. Great business model, getting their cut right off the top, without having to ask the SP for their share.

I don’t recall ever paying a deposit for dinner, before I eat it.

Since Im not going to EVER pay a deposit and I dont want to give these agencies even the time of day!

If 200 is 30% then you're looking to drop c700+ ph?

No mention from any of our other high(er)-flyers here that they've been hit with this practice.   
Perhaps they have deeper pockets and don't bat a lash at burning a few hundred quid on a non event?

I've never been requested more than 15%

Have any of these agencies had reviews?  I only see mentions of some girls from e.g. Diva who are also listed there.  Even if you can't be bothered to read reviews and then choose an independent escort, it seems logical to go to a well reviewed agency and pay no deposit.  If you ignore all the many thousands of indy and agency reviews, I can't see that UKP is helping you find a good punt at all.  For the agencies that have had recent reviews, they are on this list.

If they wish to be opportunistic that's their choice. Just as it is your choice to agree or not. It's called the real world. Either it works for them or not. And either it works for you or not.
