sad news. another lost to cancer - a dreadful disease!

Offline Ghost89

Another tv great lost. While OFAH was all about del and Rodney, they were supported by an abundance of fantastic characters. Boycie being one of them. I had the pleasure of meeting him and Marlene a few years ago and they were very happy to chat about their time on the show. I had to thank them for the many laughs they’d given me over the years. As Boycie often used to say…”I am gutted”.

Very sad. Saw him when he was in Waterstones book shop in Stratford upon Avon a couple of years ago signing copies of his book. Another one lost to cancer.

Yes obviously the main story was around Del & Rodney with quite a bit from Uncle Albert and formerly Grandad but as you say the supporting cast / characters also added a lot more depth to the entire show.

Boycies character was a great addition, the sort of obnoxious bloke you love to see someone getting one over on and Del always seemed to win in the end.
Have to say though I wasn't really that taken with "The green green grass", not sure the Boycie character was something I wanted to watch for the full 30 minutes

As already said Cancer is a horrible disease and i've known quite a few friends who have lost their lives to it, some of them were very young
I think the latest figures are that 1 in 2 of us will get cancer at some stage

An absolutely classic scene of Boycie thinking he's got the upper hand and being done up like a kipper by Del.  :D External Link/Members Only
The thing I always think of when I watch OFAH is how perfectly cast each  member was for the role they played. John Challis was simply brilliant as Boycie and the credit of course goes to the genius that was John Sullivan for recognising that.
Let's hope he's going  for a good old knees up with John, Trig, Grandad and Uncle Albert and Sid when he walks through the pearly gates.  :)

Very good that one, i'd forgotten it, another where Del stitched Boycie up is when Boycie owes Del money for some video recorders or something like that and tells him the Driscoll Brothers owned them and want their cash, can't find it right now

Very sad news indeed.  They all had their part to play and could make a scene with one simple line.
I always think of this one from Boycie:

OFAH is a show that is endlessly quotable. I never tire of watching it and it’s not a show where you stop laughing at it cos you’ve watched it previously. Boycie is a huge factor in that. Polar opposite to Del. Del had his selfish moments but had a good heart and did care about people. Boycie was all about what he could get and didn’t care who he trampled on to get it. The thing is it was always played where you still laughed at how he behaved despite being this way. I think it takes great skill to portray a character like this but still make him a joy to watch.

Very true.  The writing was superb.  Boycie 'I have heard rumours Mickey Mouse wears a Rodney Trotter wristwatch!'

On realising that the baby boy they were about to purchase is actually a girl…” it’s typical of you del, everything you sell has always got something missing!”
