When it's over I expect they will be jetting off somewhere for a nice rest on holiday as the world continues to reopen.

Always reminds me of this hilarious celebrity idiocy -

Saw them all milling around Holborn station yesterday en route to Covent Garden, where a smattering of them managed to look more like street performers than serious protestors.

I've voted Green in elections but street protest idiocy seems more counterproductive than anything.

PJ O'Rourke once said that you can assess the health of any political cause on the basis of FAF women it attracts, from what I saw yesterday they're going nowhere then.

Sums up rent a mob.

Before you go dumping all your old cars, do the relevant checks, a very nice 2001 Y reg Mondeo Ghia X auto came my way yesterday from a panic sale for 250 quid.

Despite the higher road tax as a polluter, big engine and auto always are, it is Ulez compliant :D

when they're prepared to forgo all foreign holidays and fruit & vegatables flown in out of season then I'll have a bit more respect for them, until then no skin in the game.

Confusion makes money, plain and simple, the owner of this car and many others has read the headline, 2006 or never for petrol engines and traded it in with Ford, had about 20 over the last few weeks, all perfectly good low miles low owner cars, most 1 owner with under 50k, not checking properly and buying new or nearly new.
The headline information is conning people, most post 2000 petrol cars are just fine. Not all though, so check.

Wonder if Councils, the Royal mail, etc are going to buy new fleets at the last minute, a lot of their current vehicles do not comply.

Diesels are a different matter, they just want those gone.

As we go forward, I suspect the government will deploy more and more stealth taxes and disincentives to make combustion engine cars untenable and more and more expensive to run. We'll  have to get used to it I suppose....
Congestion zones, clean air zones, parking charges, encouraging local authorities to levy more fixed penalties, cost of fuel, road tax..... so many ways they can squeeze the motorist.

You are of course correct, but it is the poor who suffer and lose liberty as usual, losing the ability to have the freedom of a vehicle and become prisoners in the home, ordering everything for delivery.
Public transport charges will rise as less vehicles generate income, taxes on electricity will rise as the massive income from fuel duty decreases, that money has to be replaced somehow, more so with current debt levels.
Sooner or later there has to be some fight back, my Son, friend and I have decided to sell the new cars and snap up as many of these perfectly good vehicles for ourselves and others who need them, it does not make sense running expensive new cars when there are perfectly good ones that meet standards we can buy through work for 250 quid a pop and make a few quid finding people who need them.

How green can it be to scrap perfectly good vehicles and send kids down mines to supply batteries for new ones while every other industry is going re use or re cycle?

Most of the German, Japanese or Korean diesels go to Europe or Africa anyway, our little Island is going to make little difference, we just comply.

Goes a lot deeper than that, no doubt the world is changing but it always has, only this time we have been conned into taking the blame and it makes money, all this green baloney will change nothing, even if the whole world joined in, which it will not as long as there is oil and coal.

Too many mugs have bought into it. Most of what we put in recycling bins goes to landfill still, my dustmen make know bones about it, empty both bins into the same truck, it is all a con.
